Halfords, very informed staff

Yep - I believe the MOT rules require them to accept all-comers, even though they're set up just for doing the Council vehicles.

This certainly used to be true at Heathrow Airport. BAA Northside MT Unit had an MOT test centre licence so they could test their own vehicles. This meant they had to accept vehicles from the public for testing as well. It was well known at the time for being a fair test as they had no products or services to sell you. But this was in the 1980's so not sure if this is still true.

Yup they are expensive, get yourself a trade card then! I have one & they are cheaper than my local ripoff factors. They are open a lot more hours than my local factors as well. The recently departed Porsche 944 had a Halfords battery, the one listed on their system was wrong, it was 5mm too tall, they changed it without question for the right one & yes they did the spannering with a battery maintainer. The guy was going to feed back the error to get their supplier to correct the system. The battery was horribly abused & yet when it sold a few months ago was still starting the car fine. There aren't that many battery manufacturers in the UK so one from somewhere else could be from the same supplier.
Their oil is ESSO so very good & at ten quid for 5L is a good deal.

stopped using halfords years ago, when I wanted a part for the car & was told by the assistant, as they didnt have the part.
Sorry we are always being asked for them, but theres no call for them.DOH.
:)
Nearly as good as the mechanic in my local mercedes garage, dealing with a customer who was obviously not happy about something.

customer,,,congratulations you hide it very well.
Me exiting in gales of laughter.:D:D

Local police maintenance garage will do MOTs for the general public. I believe it is a requirement for having a MOT test facility.
