Is it possible to reset the mmsi number on a SH GX1500e without having to go to an standard horizon service agent?

Is it secret burron press sequence, or is there some other digital wizardry needed?

Hmmm, no easy shortcuts.
If I sell my boat and leave the vhf, how can I ensure the new owner doesn't continue using my mmsi?

AIUI It’s not your MMSI, it belongs to the boat as soon as a vhf is fitted and licensed to it.
It would be wrong to move the MMSI to your next boat.
You would be better off leaving your old set and buying a new vhf if your next boat doesn’t have one, even entry level vhf now often have built in gps to back up the DSC.

From Ofcom website;
Licences are non-transferable as a call sign and MMSI number stays with a vessel for life .

Some of the newer vhfs can be done over the phone. Your model will need to be taken to a service centre to be plugged in. Yours is old and may not work which would mean a complete reflash of the firmware. There is a risk of a reflash completely destroying the vhf. Its either £32 or £37 to have it done.
Its just not worth it for an old vhf.
Buy a new set with built in gps.
