Going to CI's for the first time in a few weeks, and wondering which would be the best marina to try and get into in SPP? We will probably be staying about 3-4 nights. Jersey looks as though the St Helier Marina is the go, but not sure about SPP. Any recomendations greatly appreciated. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

SPP is easy to access, waiting pontoons outside Victoria marina. You get a bit of a swell in when the tide is over the sill and a ferry moves in or out, but mainly OK. Can be noisy though, especially if you get near the High St side. If you dont mind getting the dinghy ashore it can sometimes be better outside the marina, on the pontoons.

It does get very busy but in June you should be OK. Have a good trip.

Don't think there is power / water outside Victoria.

SPP is a good place to go; Victor Hugo's house is incredible if you like history; take a trip to Herm while you are there.

No power but i have used a hose on one of the middle pontoons last year to fill up with water.

TIP:- If you need fuel get it on arrival. as there will be a mass exit over the tidal gauge for fuel when you exit the marina, and you could be there a long time. be careful at low water there aint much water at the fuel pontoon.

Enjoy your stay. it's a much nicer place than jersey...

only one in ST PP itself for visitors victoria marina or the pontoon's outside they are not linked to the shore. Albert marina is for locals and QE2 only takes big boats as visitors ie.... 45 foot upwards or more than i think 2m draft, that dont fit into victoria marina. you will be told on arrival if you dont fit in victoria marina and directed to QE2.

mobo's tend to be rafted on G pontoon in victoria marina unless you are lucky to get a finger on either A B or C.

If you like fish you be in sea food heaven...

You should try Beaucette for one night. The entrance is superb and the restaurant is very good too (book ahead).

Water on the visitors pontoons last weekend. Lovely and quiet, apart from the shrieking gusts on Sunday night.

Great, thanks Aidy for that, and others for their suggestions. I might drop them a line to let them know when we will be hoping to arrive so they can get us in their book. Yum, yum, lerve the seafood, hopefully oysters in season as well, and I'm sure the bubbles will be!

don't know if you can book unless you are a rally (they used to do pay for three nights get the fouth free but that may be off season can't remember). Never know the marina to be full even in the school holidays. on arrival you will be met by customs with a form to fill in, then they will normally stack you on the outer waiting pontoon depending what draft you are to go in over the sill, that's if the marina is not open. we draw 1.9 metres so are always last in but you should get in first with your mobo.

depending where you have come from it's the done thing to fly a Q flag (yellow) on arrival. but not many people do.

Oysters - need to go to St Vaast for them Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I agree. Worth a short visit as it's such an unusual place; bit like something out of a James Bond film. You have to call up the H/M on vhf and get talked in.

doubt it unless it's been resold lately - which would be bizarre as I thought it was bought by a berth holder to protect his interests!

Beaucette is still the best place on Guernsey for peace and quiet (after all the wonderful anchorages) even if us Premier bertholders can no longer get freebie nites because of the buy-out. There's a cheap and regular bus to SPP if the need for retail therapy gets too strong.
