Guapa

Thanks for the update Wim.

It comes to us all regrettably. Rose is back at SYH - no big stuff planned . . .

Guapa's a beautiful boat and in fine fettle - a great buy for someone.

Wishing you all the best for the future.

Cheers
Nigel

I see this is issue quite a lot and its very sad to let your true love go.

Over the last few years however we have developed quite a lot of mods to make life much easier and the kicking of the can to continue for a number of more seasons.
Converting to self tacking jib,
Furling mainsail,
2:1 halyards,
Pontos or electric winch,
Remote control auto helm (which I love on my boat)
and a number of other options and ideas that directly deal with the issue of being short handed and not quite as physically able as we used to be.

Oh, hallo! I was wondering where you’d got to. Welcome back!

It is not only the physical march of time, it may also be a factor of a change in family circumstances and aspirations of all involved. It is very difficult to maintain your dream if you do not have 100% buy in from all those affected.
I wish Wim all the best with however he modifies his plan to suit the future.

Well... that went a lot faster than anticipated...
There is this old adage amongst boat owners that there are only two days your boat truly brings you joy.
Today was day two, and I am not sure I feel like celebrating. But I guess it was inevitable.

The end of an era - Guapa has been a part of our lives for 14 years (almost to the day).

The quest for another, smaller, boat can now start in earnest.

FWIW: the new owner is Cambridge based and I gather the intention is that Guapa will return to the East Coast at some time in the (near) future.

I was rather surprised to be honest.
36 year old boat, virtually unknown brand...
Other Kalik 44 have been on the market for YEARS (despite the price being slashed every 6 months or so).
When I put her on the market, I expected maybe one or two requests for information by Easter.
Had 3 requests to view her within a matter of days.
The first one to view her, bought her.
Had it not been for the X-Mas break the sale would have been concluded within a month.

Looking for a pocket sized version of Guapa with little or no work required.
There is a shortlist of likely candidates of various vintage ranging from 31' to 36'.
One candidate is an East Coast based boat, so we might meet again sooner rather than later.
