Griff's nice (three men in another) boat

I think we ought discuss its value. I open at GBP320,000 as is, where is, including my 10%

What about the value of the programme, though? Why couldn't they have left out the humans?

Re: Griff\'s nice (three men in another) boat

You'll know that celebrated practice for valuing a clients' house, when s/he pretends to have no idea what it's worth....

"Would you take £100k for it?" "No!"
"What about £250K, then?" "Yes...." "So that's a yes at £250K....!"
"What about if you were offered £200K? No, again!"
"Then what about £250K? "Probably yes!"
"A firm offer of £230K? "Probably not...."
"So you would accept somewhere between £230K and £250K...?"
etc....

Anyway, my guess is he'd accept not less than £180,000.

Re: Griff\'s nice (three men in another) boat

That looks like the one he is going to race, if so it has a fixed keel to his lifting centre board. I suspect that gives Griff a bit of a disadvantage, to add to his inexperienced crew.

Re: Griff\'s nice (three men in another) boat

£ 125,000

i know he has spent a lot on her and she is very pretty and does seem to sail nicely but she is over 50 and I can get a really trim young tart of a boat for far less than that.

Re: Griff\'s nice (three men in another) boat

I read in a review of the programme that they discovered that they could buy 3 Beneteaux for the price of Gryff's boat. That would make the price 3 x £126k = £378k
Seems a lot to me although Gryff's boat is luvverly.

He's spent x on buying it, and y on doing it up. That doesn't mean x+y equals the selling price

[/ QUOTE ]

So it must be worth about £ (x + y/z) then!

Re: Griff\'s nice (three men in another) boat

Guys, guys

He owns a 50+ year old long keeled wooden boat x times x won't amount to the cost of the varnish he'll need to buy.

Just the cost of finding and replacing that masthead fitting they tore out on the spinnaker up-haul with cost a fortune!

BUT as with all those wooden boat types, cost doesn't come into it ~ you heard him ~ he loves the boat like a wife or mistress or child.

What price would you put on your child?

Peter.

Re: Griff\'s nice (three men in another) boat

Great entertainment and a few good 'how (not) to do' examples.
I've never raced (except when overtaking) and I found the bawling and yelling amusing. Do crew actually respond better if yelled at, as against a clear calm concise instruction? Very therapeutic for the skipper though…

She should be worth about the same as the other one, which is on at £145.(plus some as she appeared faster and minus some as she was coming apart)

Dunno about that, it looked like a straightforward block on a tang with one or two screws holding it in... Bit underspec I would say

I thought that too - if I was replacing that I'd have a strap round the mast or a through-bolted fitting. The bit that pulled out was just a big screw-eye. Looks like a trip to Classic Marine to me.
