Grey water tank

Do I need to fit a grey water waste tank, sinks, showers waste only, to my yacht, or can this waste still be discharge directly to sea? I am asking as I am planning a long distance cruse in the near future, certainly covering the med. and USA, and possibly further if possible.

We looked into this for the Great Lakes and it would seem that this is not necessary. You do however need a holding tank and they will disable the three way valve to stop discharging anywhere except a pump out facility. I know a few years ago in Turkey they were quite strict about holding tanks but I am not sure about grey water there.

Might I dare to suggest on this post that you ring Cruising Division at the RYA for answers to all your questions of this sort? That's what a lot of us pay an annual sub for, but they will usually answer your questions even if you are not a full personal member.
