Ok, who turned up the thermostat?

The last week or so has been blimming hot. I saw the thermometer in our saloon reading 35 yesterday. That's just not on. It's a relatively balmy 32 at the moment.

Also, our fridge seems to be struggling to cope! Well, it's coping, but only by running most of the day. Poor ol' batteries are taking a beating. One would think with all this sun the solar panels would be belting out the amps. Oh no, they're too hot, so they're having a rest.

Bring back June! Now that was pleasant!

This year in the Ionian has to be one of the strangest I can remember, May set off cool with rain, temperatures up and down until July, then it rained! We have had slight rain in August, never known that before. It has warmed up now, but nothing like the mad heat of August can be. Never mind, less than two weeks now before the Mainland Greeks and our Italian friends go home! IMHO tourism is down from past years, but my local harbour has been rammed full of boats this month!

Vlicho bay is like a washing machine because of Italian motor and big ribs at full speed creating constant wash. Tranquil bay must have been named in the same spirit that Eric the Red named Greenland.

We arrived here in Ag Ef yesterday and had a great evening with friends at Finekas. We are getting blown about a bit, moored next to Corizon but Georgios gave us one of her tailed bow lines after he tried to show us a "trick" with the anchor and ripped it out. Certainly very warm but windy too. We are a little concerned for our friends as we think that they rented a boat from "John's Boats this morning and went exploring in the direction of Kalo Lemani.

I take it that they used Boulevard boat hire, Johnys, near the little jetty. They will be ok, Johny is a sound guy, he has a backup with a 115 hp Yam on the back, he goes out to get the Stragglers!

Johnny rang them at their rented villa yesterday morning to say that he couldn't get the engine to start on their intended boat so regretfully the trip was cancelled. I was waiting to get a phone call from my friend (& solicitor, actually!) asking me to come and get them, stuck on a rock near Kalo Lemani, somewhere. Then I would have lost my berth hanging on one of Corizon's substantial bow lines. We are staying in Ag. Ef. until Monday morning as the upwind boat, on rope, has his anchor line angled down wind across my escape route - he is therefore also leaning on us, which will force a very slow exit - plus Corizon's line is coming too close for a safe run at impaired speed. Also, my own anchor rode to the "unset-by-Georgios" anchor could not be relied upon in the present fresh westerly.

Maybe see you around.

Kouneli Stifado is a favourite of mine so we will probably end up at Spiros too tonight. (Except that it on the English chalk board but NOT the Greek one!)

Positively cool here in Menorca. I was windsurfing this morning in shorty under grey skies - I ended up so cold I came back on the boat for a hot shower and some hot soup.
