Well.... who else has had a cracking good weekend?

I had the luxury this weekend of a strong crew onboard in the form of my brother-in-law, who sails an 18' skiff amongst other things, so took the opportunity to sail a little overpressed....

After beating the entire length of the Orwell in 20+kts of breeze, and having a ball doing it, I can say that I have had the best sail of the year so far by a country mile!

The warm weather was just a bonus really....

Hoorah for the sheer pleasure of sailing I say!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We had a cracking good weekend, but the Crouch just happened to be at exactly the wrong angle to the wind. Dead up and down.
We found we couldnt beat into a fleet of Squibs against the tide and wind in those conditions, so we used the Gentleman's option and motored.

Very nice weekend, sounds like you had a hoolie weekend.

Glad that someone had a great sailing weekend, mines consisted of a bit of work.I also had to do the famiily bit with my youngest at a one day riding event. The wifes horse lorry did its usuall no start routine and i ended up having mess about with it.

I did however manage to ride my motorcycle over to wells, and pick up a few bits from the Chandlers that i need to finish the rigging of my new spinnaker off.

Im hoping to get the boat in next weekend and sail up the wash and into wells, the tides are not in my favour as usuall,so it could be another night entry or a bounce around on the hook.

im heading south next year

Didn't quite manage the whole weekend, but had a cracking good day today thanks to WoodyP. Twelve hours and almost all of it under sail. Took a trip out to the windfarm and a look around the Wash. Realised our navigation and boat handling abilities no longer fall into the novice category so we're definately learning more each time we go out. Quite a rough day which wasn't surprising as the c/g issued a gale warning for the Humber. Ended up with two reefs in the main and thoroughly washed gunwhales before turning to Freemans and found the wind sraight on the nose so with no room to gybe the engine was fired up for the last leg home.
Thanks George, much appreciated

Saturday mate's Mum's 80th. Poor "Fagash Lil" has got lung cancer and has gone doolali and I doubt will see another birthday.

Sunday still working on the boat but my belated birthday present to myself has arrived in the shape of a shiny new engine. I've got two weeks to get it in and running otherwise I'll be invoking the Wrath of Khan as SWMBO won't be able to go on holiday.

Jim,

I note you tactfully didn't mention your apprentice crew's struggle to come to terms with helming your twin-ruddered machine. We both slunk home feeling that we'd gone rusty awfully quickly....

Thanks to you & Lynn for a great weekend.

Us too. We took out two complete novices, and tried to act as if the 30kt gusts were normal. They fell for it and really enjoyed themselves. We had a stonking beat up to Fambridge, training the two novices to handle the jib sheets, and then ran back under a rather small genoa when the tide turned. A short sail, but great fun.

Our wind indicator logged a 49.5kt gust - not sure when, the most we saw was about 33kt!

We saw you motoring, and scoffed. A few minutes later we turned round - to beat into a foul tide, and had to do the same!

Bradwell to the colne entrance and back on friday, plans for lunch in brightlingsea were thwarted by late start and foul tide. In retrospect we were probably a bit conservative with the amount of canvas we put up.

Only downer was a new fender escaped off the end off its line on the way up bradwell creek :-(

Your welcome. Any time. I enjoyed yours and Louise's company and you make good tea.
Thanks for not making anything of the reefing cock-up. Its our secret /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

George, I have no memory of a reefing cockup /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif but I do remember an excellent day out that finally convinced me that I have enough between the ears to be able to make the Deben trip, so I'll be going for it sooner rather than later. The day was worth a week in an easier to navigate area like the Solent /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Very much appreciated and looking forward to meeting up in the Deben or Orwell soon.
