Volvo Lubricant development process

Volvo Construction Equipment invests significant resources in developing lubricants specifically for the machines they design and produce. The process from identification of a requirement through to production of a finished product can take several years. Volvo makes this investment in Volvo Lubricants to ensure that Volvo customers receive the best possible performance from Volvo machines. The development process begins in the design office where the performance requirements are identified. It continues through specification, bench-testing and field trials. Various Volvo specific tests have been developed to ensure that Volvo Lubricants meet the performance requirements. Only when it has passed all these tests, it will be launched as a finished product for Volvo machines.

So what? The claim is expressly made on the part of VolvoCE on the volvoce.com website. Other Volvo subsidiaries may have the same practice, or they may not. We're none the wiser.

Geeez! That is pretty pedantic!

(Let's not talk about Volvo cars because Volvo is Chinese owned these days)

Commercial vehicle OEMs are working hard to provide products that meet both emissions legislation and customers’ requirements for increased reliability, durability and value. Bengt Otterholm, Lubricants Co-ordinator at Volvo Group Trucks Technology, talks to Insight about some of the resulting trends that are shaping Volvo’s future requirements for lubricants.

AND

Volvo Penta Diesel Engine Oil
"Engine oil - Volvo Drain Specification

In order for extended oil change intervals to be approved for Volvo Penta diesel engines the lubricating oil must fulfill the requirements specified in Volvo Drain Specification (VDS). It is the responsibility of individual oil suppliers to state whether their oil fulfills VDS requirements in their specifications.

NOTICE! Volvo has provided the oil companies with the requirements oils must fulfill for extended oil change intervals to be approved. We would like to point out that it is the responsibility of the oil companies to ensure that their products meet the requirements issued by Volvo. AB Volvo Penta bears no responsibility for this or for any consequences arising from changes in product designations

Coopec: your Volvo Penta oil blurb merely explains the requirements for oils used by customers in their engines, and only so far as qualifying those engines for extended oil change intervals. That's a very long way from VP having "designed" the oils or even packaged them, which was the subject under discussion. Sorry if that's too pedantic for you.

Agreed, there's nothing in the quoted paragraph that says Volvo make the oil and grease. All they're doing is selecting oils off the market and trying them out on their own kit.
