For you lot down south, its located about 15miles north of Calais, the Channel Pilot is well out of date. Its well worth a visit as it is infinitely more attractive than the alternatives available on this stretch of the French coast.
Entry is about 1.5 either side of high tide sometime 2 hours.
The river is deeper than shown and wider. I had never less than 2.5 under me (I draw 1.9m) one hour after high tide when the predicted depth at high water was 6.05m (work that out)
Deeper water is in the middle not to the RHS as in pilot
There are about 6-7 pontoons with from 6 - 15 fingers on situated to the right hand side of the marina. visitors berth is first one you come too.
We were about 4 in and were afloat at all times.
The mud is very soft and deep if you are further in.
Call marina as you approach bend in river call sign 'Marina Gravelines' they speak pretty good English.
There is a Lidl pretty much on site and a Super U 10 mins walk away on the same road out of town, but no footpath so care is needed.
Bikes are essential as the town is a 10 -15 min walk away when lock is open, cycle tracks are pretty much everywhere and my kids really came on as cyclists.
Good Restaurant bar on site
Several reasonable ones in the town.
Things to do.
Fabulous fortified town with museums etc.
Sightseeing train takes you everywhere and trip lasts nearly 2 hours.
Beach (15- 20 min bike ride) is spectacular
Market Saturday and Sunday (when we were there)
Pedalos around moat, took 45 mins though the upwind leg into a force 5 nearly finished me!
Small fair for the kids.
Definately worth a visit.
