Grand designs

Quite. The producers must have been dancing for joy.

I liked the tug with the towing warps made from old bannister ropes.
If the film crew had missed the shot of the parting warp they would have been sacked. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

it was worth while to show it. As an example of the mess you can get into when not having a clue as to what you are doing. They never mentioned what happened to their narrow boat ? did they still have it, if so why not sell the flat live on it meantime and finish the 'boat' properly?

When Kevin announced "the inevitable happened" I thought he was gonna say that it'd pulled the cleat off the deck ... how disappointing that it was only the washing line ... opps ... sorry - tow line that broke ...

Paul who was the guy that walked off the project is a great bloke (he built the galley in our boat) and it takes a lot to anger him, so I can only agree with what's already been said, I'm sure it spent time in another yard ( and got very close to us but Dave next door said no) as well, although I didn't see the beginning of the program.
Good luck with the neighbours Alex.

I still can't understand why they put those windows in the side. Instead of looking for windows that would actually suit the boat they just seemed to buy the first ones available on ebay. I thought it was funny (and true) when Kevin said it looked like a Nissan hut.

Re: For heavens sake ...

Maybe wrong here but I think that sad old liveaboard was located till recently in the same yard as the grand design "church". I have noticed that over the last year or so alot of the wrecks had been leaving that particular yard. It always makes me sad to see any boat, no matter the size or type, to finally go to that great blue sea in the sky. Other forumites are right though if it were a dog you would have it put down. Cant help feeling that this one is too far gone. Hope the bloke did not pay to much for it. Can see it becoming one of those wrecks poking out from the mud that are ever so popular on the Mudway(oopsie sorry Medway!!) /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Re: For heavens sake ...

That boat did come from that yard. That boat was evicted, i assume he owed money or something, it was moved and then it was put up for sale. I don't know whether or not someone bought it prior to its sinking.

As for alot of wrecks leaving the yard, this is not true. That one is the only one that has left. Other wrecks are either still on site, or have beeen broken up onsite and disposed of.

I agree it is a waste of some formally nice old boats, but they had all past their best before date, and would be unsalvagable without major repairs.

Re: For heavens sake ...

Thanks for the welcome i've been following the forum for a while now and thought it about time i should play an active part.

I knew i had seen that sunken vessel before thanks for the confirmation Alb40 /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif it was really bugging me. I take it the Gentlemans cruiser you own is the one moored just by the canal barge. If its the one i'm thinking of she has great lines look forward to seeing her out on the river.

Re: For heavens sake ...

Oh Alb Your boat was the one that got it's stern gear damaged in the very same floating dock that this sad old liveaboard is lying in. It was another case of the owner not knowing what he was doing and not having a clue what the the underside of his boat looked like. He stuck it in the barge not realising it had no keel and it sat on the props.

Re: For heavens sake ...

Yep, she is the one. Two banana shaped shafts, bendy rudders and U shaped P brackets!

Ive replaced most of the damaged gear now, although I still need one new rudder and need to repair a broken gearbox (the force of the boat sitting on the shafts snapped the bearings). As a testiment to the strength of the old girl though, no hull damage occured.

The bloke who had it before must have had no clue what he was doing. The thing leaked eveywhere along the decks, causing lots of damage internally. One rudder shaft log is also a bit suspect due to a deck leak above it.

Time and money permitting, I'll try to get it operational over the next couple of years with a little bit of luck.

let me just say that their vessel has had a direct feed of water and electricity since it entered the boatyard in september why they have lied about this fact you need to ask them theboy as you must have noticed was on a lap top during filming connected to an electric feed
