Grand designs

Yep, I saw the programme.

What a w@nker. I am not in the least bit suprised he has been served an eviction order - he came across as the sort of person who was going to do it his way without considering any alternative and didn't care who he upset along the way.

You don't just get evicted - no doubt he has ignored requests to fix any problem by the yard owners and an eviction is the last solution for them.

That thing was poorly concieved, badly constructed and an eyesore - despite haveing real potential. The cathederal roof and arched walls could have been so pretty with just a little more effort.

It is their children that I feel for, as they have no choice.

Totally agree with jez.
No research done about mooring. It was certainly different. Makes a change from the normal mobile home on top, but i wouldn't like to moor next to it.

All the way through I sat there thinking the guy was a real plonker and had no reason to change my mind come the end. An ugly monstrosity that will probably never find a permanent home. And a dickhead owner who has his family "living" in a building site with no facilities.

Couldn't agree more.

I happen to be in the same yard as that boat. If they put a bit more thought into the boat, came up with a design, and then gave a toss about other people, then it would be a very sucessful project.

80k though to build it? Theres a number of ready converted barges for sale locally for not alot more money.

Ah yes, but his was ecologically sound /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Theres a variety of reasons for it, but im not in a position to comment, due to the legal issues currently being delt with between the boat owners and boatyard management.

As for ecologically friendly. I fail to see where that comes in. All boils down to the lack of design again. There are a few local houseboats that also where never built with a design, but have been pulled off with varying degrees of success.

Personally, i'd rather buy a nice dutch barge or similar if I wanted a large houseboat as an alternative to a house. Their not a vast amount more money, or even probably less if your buying a hull with an empty hold. Also give the ability to be self propelled, which for me is what live on a boat is all about - having a large space to live with the freedom to be able to go places should you choose

Total tosser IMHO. £80k should and could have bought them a nice conversion but they chucked money away on their idiotic principles of not having a design, using crappy reclaimed materials and, of course, being green although by the end, the green bit seemed to have been forgotten. As for the eviction, I'm sure there's more to that than was said. Did they keep up with their mooring fees?
Did I hear right that this bloke works in local govt? No wonder the rates keep going up and the services keep getting worse

c'mon Jez don't hold back say what you mean /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Kevin and my household agree with you.

IMHO whats this all about then. Another abb i no not about. Is there a list somewhere.
His original budget was about 40-50k. Another reason why he's complete plank

social workers ....

Thats it slag em down dont forget their the ones who decide what happens to the lonely pensioners and helpless kids

ERR

tis no wonder they cause so much more harm than good, I mean how can nutters like that who cant even look after their own children play judge and jury with others lives !!!
unreal or what
that heap is a dangerous structure I'd go potty if a yard said heres your new neighbour serves em right
What a waste of a grand design aye ?
cheers
Mick

Re: social workers ....

Worse than that, the TV pics showed their kids playing unsupervised on the upper deck. One slip and they were over the side into the water or gloopy mud. As you say, these are the kind of people who makes decisions on whether to take other people's kids into care or not

For heavens sake ...

Initially, I thought it was a brilliant idea, or perhaps more sensibly, a good idea with great possibilities. After about ten minutes (did it take that long..), I realised that they were both relieving themselves to windward:-

He for being so airy-fairy and inflexible,
She for wanting people to climb up to a lobby and then down to the "reception" area. OK if it's a couple of feet to reconcile levels, but twenty??

as "doom and gloom" Kevin said - at least get your recycled materials organised and on hand first, then proceed to some form of design.

It's galling to have to say that from the interior it didn't look to awful, the staircase was brill and the open space living area; excellent.

The only thing "green" about the project was the naivety of the owners
