Thanks everyone and esp oceanfroggie! I jst followed advice and changed the setup dd.mm.ss etc ????? anyway it reads perfect against the other gps unit in the boat .

ah well - your brief ability to be in two different places at the same time comes to an end, but at least you now know where you are with more certainty!
