I am currently considering changing my sailboat to a motorboat. I am thinking of getting something about 38ft with a flybridge and twin diesels. Anyone with this kind of boat, or anything similar, I would love to hear what kind of MPG you get or how many GPH and at what sort of cruising speed.

Thanks very much for your help.

David.

I have a Phantom 37 with twin TAMD 63P's (370hp each) I have worked out my consumption to be about 1.3mpg at a normal cruise of 23kts at 2200rpm.

Hmm. I think better actually to sell the sail boat and buy a motorboat than change/convert it. But yes I agree with moose, you wd invariably get 1.1-1.3nmpg for that size of boat, twin diesel planing. Quite different if you are thinking of a 38' displacement motorboat

Unless you are planning going vast distances this might be a bit of a misleading number. 1.3mpg sounds terrible but in reality you are likely to spend a lot of time pottering at 6 knots and sitting there with a glass of wine admiring the view (cos you'll have a lot more time than you did with your sailing boat!) I use my boat (a Phantom 40 with cats but similar to the 63p's) every weekend pretty much and spend about £100 every 6 weeks.

See my "choosing a flybridge" posted yesterday. We have much in common! Im giving up sailing and moving to a 37/38 flybridge.

Ive chosen the Sealine F36 as a favourite. It cruises much faster than many other flybridge MVs for its size. I'm looking to spend about £130000. I'm also told to expect to pay about £1:00 per mile in fuel. Let me know your short list of power boats. Cliff dale

Must be a rare boat. I've just been looking for one in Ancasta and brokerage on this site. I found a 38 foot one in S. of France. Im quite keen to swap from sail to power and I am edging towards a Sealine F36.

I have a Sealine S37 sports (37ft) and its coming out at about 50 litres per hr with a high percentage of 20-25 knot cruising. From the distance log I'm getting 0.35 miles/litre which is about 1.6 mpg. This feels about right against the extra weight/wind resistance of a flybridge.
