Just read that trials of the (£2Bn cost to date) Bowman communication project, 8 years late so far, had to be halted cos the tank commanders had'nt a clue where the live ammo they were firing was landing and the friggin headsets could'nt be heard over the noise of the guns... unbeleivable..

Nothing to do with your post Jimi, but any idea what WilliamB posts were about ( in a round about, non litiganous way of course). I hate it when posts are withdrawn before I get to read them.

What about Star Wars then? Totally inconceivable amount of money to develop a system that is so complicated that it can't possibly work with a spin off that if ever terrorists get in to it they could automatically shoot down all our satellites. Oh well. There goes Sky TV then.... Come to think of it no great loss.....

Can I chuck in here the recent abandonment of the RAFT project in the River Tamar. After spending £25 million on dredging the site and doing untold damage to the river bed as well as the sea bed in Whitsand Bay where they were dumping the stuff the Navy has now decided that the system they were using before is quite adequate anyway.

Should have left it to Marvo Marine Products. Could have charged 4bn and then vacated the complaints department before the troublesome punters show up with whimpy tales of the kit not functioning. Of course it functions, just not the way you think it should. Didn't you read the smallprint?

Besides it is only £68.03 for every man woman and child in the UK. Bargain.
National Census 2002 - 58789194 peeps. Very accurate too. Not.

You would pick up the connection quickly if you were ahead of the guns and relying on forward observers telling them where NOT to fire.
