Good Value Boat heaters

i will set it up in the shed/workshop first to see how it operates and give it a decent test. Might be possible to run in some solder on the silencer to make sure it is sealed.

I must say i think the world has been ripped off somewhat with the main stream brands that were previously available

no solder ,a guy did it on windermere on a generator i think he killed at least one ,brazing or weld

Couldn't you just run an exhaust sealing tape around the joint? Looks like a good find BP, worth a punt.

Well I have just ordered one. I will set it up in the workshop and see how it goes. Cheap is an interesting word. Sould we use. Good value, Inexpensive or another word.
Did you use the seller based in Liverpool ? I ordered one on Sunday, expect to get it next week.

I do have an old Eber exhaust silencer in my workshop so may use that and I will definitely be using kerosene from the supplied tank.

no fumes kill

Not strictly Fumes that Kill it is Carbon Monoxide that is the killer. Lets not decide quite yet that this unit is a killer before it has had a few tests. Mine will be mounted in the engine bay anyway and the air will be drawn from the cockpit above

I know about the exhaust is the most important ,on my last boat the guy had wrapped the ex in like asbestos bandage and it nearly choked us

Should there be some sort of CE mark or other [ insert name ] safety marks ? Feels like those cheap Xmas lights that catch fire and set the tree alight .

Also if DIY instal and there’s an accident the insurance Co and or the coroners will be asking awkward questions.
If there’s a fatality the deceased relatives “ ambulance chaser “ read personal injury type lawyer after compo £££++++ for the surviving relatives, will be asking probing questions- Er in court room with you sat in the dock .

That is an incredibly stupid set of suggestions which could apply to anything DIY. Are you seriously suggesting that people should not do DIY because of theoretical nonsense.

The whole world cant sit around earning a living from paper pushing and litigation.

Also you say 'feels' like cheap Chinese Christmas lights. Have you seen, touched or indeed felt one to be able to make such a comment, or are you just basing your comments on the inexpensive price. Perhaps if they just left the product as is and put a £1200 price tag on it you would be more happy.

I wondered how long it would be before 'The Sky is falling brigade' turned up

Incredible

How much time ( feels like it could be days reading ^^^^ ) do I need to book out to sit in the public gallery?

Just asking what standards if any it meets .I would interested to know and if not why not ?

Not dissing it just don,t want to read another MAIB report about CO poison or fire .

So what would you do. Employ a so called professional to do the job just so you are possibly protected. What checks would you carry out on this professional (Perhaps look at some pieces of paper)

Just cease all the theoretical nonsense and get out there and get your hands dirty

I thought to sell a product in the UK it had to be CE marked, the heater my friend showed me had a C of C with it.

It may or may not have a CE mark which of course is just a piece of paper on a sticker. The world has changed somewhat it is called Ebay.

As I said I will test it on the bench in my workshop

I was going to do a review of this product and what I thought about it etc, But Judging from some of the theoretical nonsense I am getting and I am sure I will get I am having second thoughts about wasting my time trying to help and possibly inform others

Also against the law to sell in UK which will most likely be how they can sell so cheap, I would not install something to my boat that doesn’t have the correct certificates and would not want to be berthed next to someone whose boat doesn’t comply, my biggest concern would be invalidating my insurance if a non complaint item is used.

I do like seeing Dawin's theory being reinforced, so long as no innocent bystanders are harmed, so will just sit back and wait.

Yes but are you suitably qualified to install the unit. All the boat companies I know employ specialist to install heating systems

Well
1) I replace the brake shoes and Discs in all my cars …….. So I will deffo crash
2) I built (with my own hands) 3 extensions on my Houses (All trades except plastering.... Tried but failed on that one)...…… I am sure they will all fall down
3) I rewired my house ………………………………. I am sure it will catch on fire
4) I built my own swimming pool and installed a heating system to it...……………… I am sure that will fail in some way
5) I reroofed parts of my house...…….. I am sure that will leak
6) I have carried out numerous electrical works in my house and friends ………….. I am sure they will all catch fire and I will be sued and become destitute
7) I installed my own central heating boiler and carried out loads of plumbing work...…………. I am sure that will all blow up
8) I have built and flown over 200 RC planes ……………… Of course all 200 of them disintegrated in the air

I worked my whole life as a Chartered Surveyor and had no formal training for any of the above. I could also have afforded to have paid for others to do all of the above.

My moto is get stuck in and do it your self. If I have to pay someone else to do a job I consider that I have failed...…….. If you never try you will never know...…. What have you tried

Although I have been a paper pusher most of my working life I have no time for people who sit back and pay it done.

Am I qualified to install a boat heater...….. Well yes I think so

If paperwork and bullshit is more important to you than doing something practical then that is fine but why not have a go.
