I know that this is going to upset the purists and so apologies in advance, but I have decided to get an ipod/iphone dock on my boat to play music. It needs to run off 12v, i don't need a radio or a cd player and it has to be high quality, it is going to be inside so it doesnt need to be waterproof. I also don't really want to start cutting the cabinetry to install it unless it is a standard din size and thus can be upgraded or changed at a later date. I also want to run a set of Anthony Gallo speakers from it:

so the amp needs to be good.

Many thanks.

This made my day about 3 weeks ago

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-F8Z4...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1309354749&sr=8-2

blue tooth music receiver (not quite what you were looking for i guess but now you dont have to limit yourself to a iphone docking speaker)

I already have a iphone docking speaker but now i dont even have to dock my speakers, I just bluetooth my music to my speakers, my laptop also has bluetooth (you can buy bluetooth dongles). So now i can turn the music up and down from my iphone anywhere on the boat, and watch movies on my lappy with the sound coming out the speakers.

I use one of these

http://www.gear4.com/product/_/14/explorer-sp/

It has rechargeable batteries in it which when plugged into the mains re-charge. The dock is 12v. So onboard I use one of these from maplins

http://www.maplin.co.uk/universal-3a-dc-power-supply-228639

to plug it in onboard via a 12v socket if the units own rechargeable batteries need supplementing.

I’m not sure it would suit your speakers though. Although it does have an aux output. But for what it is, it does give surprisingly good sound.

Good little piece of kit which because of it's re-chargeable batteries makes it very portable around the boat or elsewhere for that.

Regards.

Have you tried the Nucleus Micro's on an amp running off 12V? At 89dB/W they are not the most sensitive. (As one would expect). I can't see a combined dock and amp having enough power? Maybe if you fit a separate "In car" amplifier. But remember the power draw on your service batteries.
