Go Pro time lapse Ipswich to London - not mine

That was good. Can you do time lapse with a Xacti?

I tend to run the camera and then speeed it up in post production

I am not sure if the new panasonics do the one frame every now and again

as for the fish eye

the lens keeps the verticals straight and the horizon straight as long as they are in the middle of the field of view

however, as it goes through the lock you can see the bthings that should be straight at the edge of the image are dragged in towards the centre - and they curve

the effect is increased if you are hand holding and move the camera

thingsd start to wobble around

some people are not bothered a bit by it

drives me crazy

Thanks Dylan, I'm also not keen on the Fish-eye effect, but Go-pro's seem popular non the less for it.

I had a look and the latest Panasonic xacti (they call is somthing else now) can do time-lapse automatically. Been thinking of buying one for ages as it's waterproof and gives decent enough video quality, maybe it will be a present for the boat before the Fastnet :-)

The marketing for go pro is brilliant

however, the thought of carrying one around in your pocket is not wonderful

the panasonic/xacti is snooth and comfortable

the go pro is a rather bizarre square shape

when I kill the xacti I will go straight out and buy the panasonic replacement

the batteries are cheap and last for ages

and it does a pretty tgood job os stills

its only fault is poor performance in low light

I have used mine underwater - but it still makes me nervous

I use it for all the duck punting films and whenever it is raining

I never leave home without it

it is always in my pocket or the door of the car

it is also cheaper than the Go pro

if you opne these films in youtube, click the wheel at the bottom and watch them at 720p you will get an idea

they were made at 1080p - but I cut the size down because now many people have computers that can handle the full HD

I have a Ricoh CX5 that has a timelapse facility and will do this sort of thing. The trick is to turn off the LCD screen so the battery lasts.
An iPhone with the timelapse app does a pretty respectable job too.

waterproof is good though

and I would be a bit worried about leaving expensive equipment bungeed to the pushpit
