Forum bringing people together. Certainly I knew Mapism through the forum before this meet up but I can't recall whether I had met Hurricane or MYAG previously. Shame on me for that

Right from the early days of the Mobo forum in the '90s there was a social aspect to it with people meeting up outside the forum and I've met many people through the forum whom I count as friends now. We all have a common interest in motorboating and it doesnt matter whether you've got a big boat or a small one or even no boat at all

I've had 13 boats in 29yrs of motorboating and we've kept this one for 6yrs which is far longer than any of the others, and we probably wont sell it for a few more years either so yes we like it
 
You could try Suncoast based in Duquesa.
See - here Home - Suncoastmarine (website seems to be down at the moment - it was working earlier today)
They are close enough to Gib and the Atlantic to give tidal qualifications.
Clive who used to own it used to post on here.
Clive had an apartment that SWMBO and I rented during our courses.
SWMBO did a Day Skipper whilst I did the Yachtmaster.
We did ours in the winter months and the weather was great.
It seems that these days, Phil is running the school.
Phil is the man - he was my Yachtmaster instructor - I've met him a few times since.
He did a delivery from Sant Carles and we called in on our delivery of Jennywren from Torquay to the Med.

But, remember all you need is an ICC which you can take separately or off the back of Day Skipper/ Powerboat Level 2
And, of course some practical experience which IMO is FAR more important than a paper qualification.

I remember chatting with you and Jimmy at one of the London boat shows.
I think you two were talking about cars - buying "nearly new" and selling within 3 year - I think.
When I came into the conversation, you said that I was the style of person who buys new and NEVER sells.
Maybe you are getting closer to that category. :)

Great recommendation. Thanks. And I agree. There is NO substitute for experience as with most things in life.
When I'm ready to pull the trigger I will annoy the hell out of you lot for more advice :)

Yes I remember the boat show meeting now. Sorry

I think I'm just getting old now and can't be bothered with the hassle of changing boats. A bit like wives:D

I’ve had 5 boats in 20 years and would love to trade up (as soon as I’ve fixed the passerelle ?). But I appear to be the only man here who’s not a man☹️? because I have to ask the wife. And she’s said no??

Sort of a sad day tomorrow as the Hooligan sails back to the UK. 6 great years on a great great boat, the S 58. With 4 growing/n up kids and pressure on sleeping space we decided to trade up to the S65 but it is always sad to see your first ever boat depart. The 65 is heading out next week so with SWMBO and eldest child at Italian school in Florence, decided to fly out a week early then go up to Genoa to collect her off the boat with plan to take her back down to Salerno where home base is at the moment. Somewhere over France the Italian government put Tuscany on Red zone status so now should be interesting getting from Florence to Genoa as lockdown starts tomorrow. Quite sad to hear the stories of hardship here especially the smaller shop owners who face complete wipeout now. A couple were in tears. And there is very little government support unlike the UK. Each country has its interesting exceptions and in Italy, or at least here, lingerie shops and hairdressers are deemed essential businesses along with supermarkets!! Anyway have all the papers to hopefully persuade the Caribinieri that collecting a boat is as essential as lingerie, so should be a good adventure. Will also be interesting to see if Italians will observe lockdown 2 as we in the UK have (not). People i spoke to today seem to think not either. Anyway here’s a toast to a great boat and may the next owner have as great a time on her as we have had.

Ref. your question, for myself all these friends came from contacts established here in the asylum first.
But I guess that as an Italian I might be a bit of an exception, because I had much less chances to have met anyone in the UK regardless of the forum.
I must also say that it's been a while since I made new real world contacts, following the virtual ones made around here.
To some extent, I blame the overall forum "quality" for that, which imho did not improve with age as good red wine does, to put it politely.
But who knows, maybe I'm the one who is getting more grumpy with age...! :giggle:

Are you in Salerno's main harbour, or in Marina d'Arechi?
Very nice coastline anyway - both around the Sorrento peninsula and also further South, in the Cilento area.
All the very best for the new boat, and whenever you should decide to cross to Sardinia, give me a shout.
I know it's a long crossing, but certainly within the capabilities of a 65 footer, and (imho) well worth it.
 
I’ve met a handful (and they are) of forum members. And I was hoping to meet a few more except for this wretched disease. It’s always fun to put faces to people you know but don’t know. I think people are shocked when they meet me, because I look exactly like you imagine I do?

Hi. We are in Marina D’Arechi. It is functional and works and as you say the cruising ground is amazing. We went south this summer and cruised for 1000nm around Sicily which we loved. Funnily enough we were talking about coming down to S Sardinia this coming summer. Thought was Aeolians again then Egadis and then across to Sardinia. Would love to meet up. Will let you know closer to the time. Family has fallen in love with Italy and we also want to go back up through the Pontines and Elba.....so much to do!!

Southern Sardinia is by now for myself and my wife rather a home than a holiday destination, so you are going to find us around here most of the time!

Is there a list of necessities for Med cruising?

I'm starting to home in on the right flybridge model and thinking about the optimum spec. I appreciate that all boats are compromises...

Here's what I can think of off the top of my head (leaving aside the obvious need for space (large lazarette, crew cabin etc...):-

Full size fridge freezer in the galley
Ice maker
Fridge / icemaker on the flybridge
Grill on the flybridge
Decent genny (is 7Kw enough)?
Pasarelle with crane functionality
Reverse cycle aircon
Washer / drier
Decent tender (size dependant on the boat)

Have I missed anything?
