I do find it absolutely extraordinary with Solas and GMDSS requirements etc that a Navtex station can be out of action for 3 months and that there is no system in place to tell you of this fact, if your own Navtex machine is tuned solely to that station.

What sort of system is that.

It’s absolutely ridiculous. (You can tell I’m fuming.)

(I don't suppose I'll get any response from the powers that be.)

I can tune the Navtex 3 ways,

a) All stations on
b) Nearest available station.
c) A specific station.

The point I was making, is that a lot of people tune their Navtex into a specific i.e. local station, because they don't want a load of unwanted bumpf coming in from say French stations or whatever.

So, if your Navtex is tuned into a specific station only, and that station goes down, in this case it has gone down 3 months now, there appears to be no system in place to warn you of this. For example, no mention was made of it on Coastguard VHF transmissions. No mention has been made of it in Notices to Mariners.

Therefore, there is a gap in the GMDSS system which isn't plugged. I think it's a very important safety point.
