Over the years I have lost several pairs of sunglasses 'over the wall' and having just invested in an expensive pair of polarised ones I don't want to lose them so I want a cord or strap to prevent that happening.

Any recommendations/avoids for cords/straps, please?

I used one that has a silicone sleeves that pushed onto the end of the glasses arms and a card with a toggle that could be tightened just enough so as not to cause discomfort for my glasses when I went kayaking. I rolled the kayak many a time in rough water and never lost my glasses. Nothing clever, the silicone gave additional grip and the toggle rested at the nape of my neck.

I’ve always used the neoprene type that you push the ends of the arms into. Current one is from Musto and works well. You need to check that your glasses fit them before you buy. One pair of glasses has a thick end and struggles with some of my thinner bands.

I have cord on my glasses now .. the useless style with loops and little rubber grommets that close the loop on the arm. The grommets slack back and arms slip out. You can use small amount of twist wrap instead of or to back up the grommert to be more secure.

BUT I devised a trick other day that I need to repeat (I just had to replace arms in my varifocals) ......

Slide on the loops and tighten. Then slide on heat shrink tube ... carefully shrink the tube setting the cord as needed. It means you don't have anything touch the ears .. the cord is not seen out of corner of eye ... choose heat shrink colour to blend in with arms.

If I could buy locally the style where you slide end of tube onto arms .. pull to tighten .. I would ... but they don't sell that here.

The neoprene style ones tend to be given away from time to time...if you don't mind advertising for someone.

The best one I ever had, which I would gladly pay a tenner for but have never seen again, had neoprene sleeves connecting to a curly "kill cord" style bungee and an adjustable bit in the middle. It was easy to get them tight without being uncomfortable.

I competed at a regatta sponsored by Mount Gay Rum and scrounged what was left over at the end, a handful of booze-branded neoprene specsavers; I still have a couple.

Well I just use a bit of insulated wire or string to tie tight knots on the arms and stretch the lot over my head to keep glasses in and tight. Bit of Fred Drift here is ol'will in full sailing gear. Long sleeved shirt and trousers, arab hat and bare feet. Yes feet get sunscreen. Passenger as usual (talking ballast) or is that admiral? Up on the gunwhale. Might also be of interest the VHF antenna on stbd stern rail. ol'will East-Fremantle-Yacht-Club_opening-of-the-sailing-season-15.jpg

OK

Seems the choices are:

Neoprene strap - holding the specs firmly in place
Cord - allows the specs to dropped down to the chest, eg to look at a chart
Homemade lashup with string - costs nowt

I think I'll try all three!

Thanks for all the advice /recommendations. (y)
