Any one who has experience with the Gladiateur 33?
Please let me have your opinion on the boat. Cant find any test-or second hand reports. Considering to by one for sale, but unsure on osmosis.

Sven, Hi!
We have a 1973 Holman & Pye built Centurion 32 (designed by Waiquez), which we bought in Jan 2002 - she had bad osmosis too. I have to admit it was touch and go as to whether we wanted to commit to a soggy bottomed boat, but we did the sums, knocked the asking price down accordingly and (now that the work has been done) she is the best boat we could have asked for, for the price we paid... she's pretty (ie she's not a 'soap-dish'), she sails really well, she feels bulletproof and she's got a good handicap - above all she's got character! If the Gladiateur is anything like this one, then great!
Hope this helps a little?

Used to sail one about 20 years ago. Nice relatively quick cruiser racer. Felt bigger than her length. Quite stiff but a bit wet - as most boats of that size are.

The Gladiateur 33 was designed by Holman & Pye and built by Henri Wauquiez' yard in Mouvaux, France. For layout drawings, go to www.boat.de/wauquiez/eng/yard/location.htm and click on <previous models> and go from there.
Ask Yachting World for a reprint of the December 1978 article 'Getting to know...Gladiateur'.
Holman & Pye were designers of the Oyster 39, Centurion, Hustler, UFO 34, Rustler and Twister, among others, each one a classic.
As with buying any boat, do your homework, get her surveyed, negotiate a good price, and, if you can, buy her. If you are looking for a well built classic of the time, an easily handled passage maker, a fast cruiser, a good sea boat, with a well thought out interior in Burmese teak, a sensible and variable sail plan that will look after you in bad weather, you won't be disappointed.
Yes, ok I've got one, had her for two years and wouldn't change unless I made a quantum leap to a 38/40'.
Call me for a biased view ... Allan on 01425 614947.
