Well, the best laid plans etc. etc. etc.

If you recall I had recently asked for a restaurant to take my crew to after they sailed to Gibraltar.

Work had other plans.

It looks like I shall be leaving the boat at the marina for about a fortnight. I can't go pick her up any earlier.

Is it a good idea? Or is the marina one of those in which there will be a price paid?

I'm sure a local forumite will volunteer to boat sit for some beer vouchers.

Ocean Village marina (formerly Marina Bay) is a safe place to leave a yacht. 24 hour office manned, cctv all around. Lots of people living on boats.

Don't worry!

:encouragement:

Oops, I sort of made a mess with the name.

Thanks for the reassurance! Beer vouchers are of course available :)

I just saw that the prices changed a bit for 2015. Still, UKP 28/day isn't bad.

I keep being surprised at how expensive the yearly berths are.

Just looking at new price list and there is a split between Marina Bay (old side) and Ocean Village (new side). Not many berths on new side at the moment, they are rebuilding and its more expensive anyway!

Summer prices up 50p a day, winter stays same. Discounts on 6 months or over.

Enjoy your stay!

I have not stayed for more than a night or two in Marina bay since it was revamped but I have not heard of any problems at Marina bay - there are lots of liveaboards and some security, but anybody can access the pontoons. No physical division between boats and general public except 'no entry' painted on floor. It is bang next door to the runway and folks party at the casino and cafes late into the night.

Queensway Quay is in a different league but the prices are similar. All the pontoons have security gates with access code and video surveillance. Some of the best restaurants in Gibraltar are situated around the marina. The super-yachts now choose to come to QQ rather than Marina bay. It's an easier walk into town and the facilities are top rate. Launderette and watermaker/aircon experts on site. Jacqui runs the office, but getting a place here is not always easy...You need to call or email

We leave the boat for weeks/months on end, as do lots of Brits who fly in for 'boating'. There are one or two livaboards and security staff patrol.

You will see Paw Paw on the left as you motor in - call on VHF before entering as the passage is narrow. If we are on board give us a wave but we are shortly off towards Sicily on our summer cruise.

Gib is a grand place to be and both marinas are good in their own way.

La Linea (Alcadesa) is also very safe (secure access for individual pontoons, cctv, security patrol). Cheaper than either of the Gibraltar marinas too, and only a short walk to the airport in Gib. Though Gib is a cracking place to spend a few days and Ocean Quay has a buzz about it.
