Getting stuff galvanised?

I piggy back mine onto whatever load my local steel fabricator is sending off. Generally charges me about £1/kg.

Thread drift, slightly. A customer I was responsible for in NE England had a steel lintel division; the galvanizing line when I was there was horrific. Totally meeting legal requirements. Deep hydrochloric acid dip tanks and associated vapours, deep molten zinc tanks ( and zinc vapour) plus when trying to get a breath of fresh air outside, a very, very old cemetery with fog the day I was there.

The Witham plant is called South East Galvanisers and is part of the Wedge Group these days - their address in Critall road gives you the clue as to why a large galvanising plant is located in Witham, if you remember steel window frames. This is the plant SYH normally use. If it's chain you want done, it should really be spin galvanised to avoid links seizing on each other - they don't do this at Witham, but send it away to another Wedge plant, probably in Willenhall.

Thanks; very helpful.

In a former life, my then father in law was a toolmaker at Crittalls; all sorts of bits of a 12 ton gaff cutter came through the Crittals toolroom; galvanising, roller bearings for internal bound ash blocks, windlass parts, deadeye bindings, gammon and cranse irons, entire anchors... the familiarity of the Crittall Hope tool room with such items leads me to think that half the Maldon and Mersea smack fleets had relations there...

I had 50m of 10mm chain + a 35lb CQR regalvanized by BE Wedge in Willenhall a couple of years ago. IIRC the bill came to about £200. Done in a week.
I'm fairly sure they are one of the few places who can do chain.

Thanks. There is allegedly 85m of 8mm in my forward chain locker, so it shouldn't need any organ sales to get it galvanised.
