Genoa sheets

Please can anyone confirm the correct length furling genoa sheets should be for a Beneteau Oceanis 320 ? - mine have gone missing and I need to have some replacements made up !

If you take each one as the length of the boat that will give you enough ti tie to the clew plus enough to go round the winches with a bit to spare.
If you imagine the lazy sheet going round the mast & back to the sheated clew it will still be similar distance as of it went to the furled clew
If you go by someones dimensions you might end up short
Better to be overlength a metre or so

I like to "overwind" the genoa with the sheets making two or three turns around the furled sail, which helps prevent accidental unwinding, so allow a meter for that, a metre for tying to the clew, the distance from the clew to the winch and enough line cleat it off and it will be adequate. If in doubt, as already said, it's better to be a metre overlength so that the line can be tailed on the winch than too short. Funnily enough, my lockers contain a number of offcuts which come in very useful around the boat, once I've established the correct length and cut to suit. Even a metre of good sized braid finds a use as it can bundle something up without cutting in like a cheese wire.

Ok, cut to size....I think 1.2 x boat length should do, so 12 meters of 14mm

Isn't that too much? I have 12mm for my Beneteau 361 and they are fine.

For your guidance, Mauri Pro mention 30feet (finished length) x 10mm double braid. If you are going to use bowlines foe attaching to the clew, make allowances for that. If your winches can take 12mm line it would be much more comfortable to handle. On my Centurion 32 I have 14mm sheets for that very reason.

P.S. My Genoa is 35 square metres with a huge overlap; the clew comes back to within half-a-metre from the winch.

Executive decision made....12.75 m x 12 mm, already bowlined to new genoa....should be on boat tomorrow...hopefully will sail forwards rather than sideways now!

It usually helps matters if you also use the rudder to coax the boat along the direction that you want...

On my beneteau 323 the original spec is 10m of 12mm braid on braid.

Get what you think plus 10% as you will have the right size after shadf repairs after some Atlantic Downwind sailing if you don't use sacrificial sheet ends
