Have been told that clear gel coat below the waterline is more resistant to osmosis than pigmented, if this is the case I shall not epoxy over mine.Regards John

I would have thought that the reason for clear gel coat below water line might be related to cost .
My EYGHTENE 24 (1981 vintage) has clear gel coat below w/l and must admit no signs of any osmosis yet .

I bel;ieve that the reason for clear gel coat on a number of makes, was the ability to check that the lay-up had been completed satisfactorily!, cos' you could see any voids..... Tony W.
