Gear box repairer

Hi All

The gearbox on Sirenia is very reluctant to engage forward gear.
It will go into astern every time.
I have been changing the oil, checking that the remote is moving the leaver enough etc during the season.
Once I have persuaded it to get her up to Martlesham It will be time to get it out and to a repairer.

The box is a HBW 35 otherwise known as a ZF 3M it came as part of a Beta 10 engine.
Can anyone suggest someone who can fix it at a sensible price?

I have had a look at a manual I found on-line and I don't fancy trying to fix it myself!

I'm taking a gearbox up to a firm in Warwick for Tomahawk next Friday, can't remember the name of the firm though but I'll know next week! Apparently they're the bees knees etc.

Try French Marine at Brightlingsea. Did a very good job on my gearbox.

Well I managed to encourage the gearbox to engage forward gear and Sirenia is now in Martlesham.
Now I have to raise the enthusiasm to drag the engine out of its hole and into the main cabin.

Is it not possible to slide the shaft aft far enough to get the gearbox off without taking the engine out? That can save a lot of hassle.

There's someone up in the midlands (maybe the people Bru's dealing with) who used to sell new ZF gearboxes and recon ZF and Hurth ones way cheaper than anyone else, cheaper than many local firms quote for rebuilding a Hurth box. I think they have some connection with Midland Chandlers and they usually advertise on flea-bay. Sorry it's a bit vague.

Thanks for the suggestion to get the box out.
The access to the rear of the engine is via the Cockpit locker.
To just touch the box is quite a contortionist trick.
I really don't fancy that.

Thanks for the heads up on the company in the Midlands.
I will see if I can find them.
As you say Bru may be able to give some guidance.
