Gas refil

Some time back you could buy a kit to refil camping gas bottles from bigger bottle .
I don't seen to be able to locate the kits now .
NOW before I get don't it dangerous you blow your self up , which I guess not done right you could so crossing the road .
Not interested .

I just paid €40 for a 907 , while cruising south we paid for refil 12 to 15 and for and exchange €25 .
And even then many use to refil their own bottle.

I can't fit a bigger type bottle in other wise I would .

Google easily finds kits to refill Camping gaz cylinders from propane cylinders ( with POL connection) or from butane cylinders with 21mm "butane nut" connections.
However I believe all Calor butane cylinders except the small, 4.5 kg, ones have push on connections these days . ( I guess this is so that numpties who don't know which end of a spanner is which can easily "plug in" their gas BBQs and patio heaters)

You want hose tails for remote fitting regulators, one for each type of cylinder you are to use, then get the screw connector that is needed, got mine from hydraulic guys, it was N20 connector they said. Use a couple of Ali washers to seal and your good to go.

Manage to pick up 4.5kg full 17€ but its left hand , if I can find LH connector to
fit the bottle then all I need is one for the CG bottle .

connect the two together, works faster if you cool the receiver bottle, otherwise It may take 30 minutes plus.

Normally flammable gas threads are LH, you can tell from the notches cut in the edge of the nut

I don't intend to be judgemental, but perhaps it's the high incidence of DIY refilling small Camping Gaz cylinders that has led to their scarcity. Market forces etc.

You are not paying for the gas. You are paying for the packaging (conveniently sized bottles, standard fittings) the return & refilling service, the distribution (available outside UK), the safety checks on the bottles and valves.
It's been such a popular service over the last few decades that alternatives are limited.

Not sure greed is the only, nor even the main, factor in the pricing. If you don't like the packaging, just buy your gas in another format. If your boat only takes a 907 cylinder, that's hardly Campingaz' fault.

I get the refil your own cylinder business (if you can't get them from the oficcial source) but is it really wise to contemplate putting propane into a cylinder designed for butane? and then expecting a regulator designed for butane to still work properly and safely with the higher pressure propane now in the cylinder?

On the first point I think it is unwise with UK Camping Gaz cylinders. I've a selection of 907s here and some are stamped 15 bar test pressure whilst others are stamped 12 bar. Given that propane cylinder pressure is around 10 bar at 20-21C that doesn't leave much in reserve for hot days and/or direct sunlight. By comparison Calor propane cylinders are stamped as tested to 30bar.
CG cylinders built for propane do exist though and will have both the butane and propane quantities stamped on the skirt - I've only ever come across these abroad though e.g. in the Alps.
I don't know about using a butane regulator on propane; I've always assumed it would be a dangerous fail. If I were to have a CG cylinder containing propane then I'd use a CG adapter, the appropriate high pressure pigtail and either a propane or universal/bulkhead regulator.

May I ask is there any benefit to have a regulator for the 15kg/ 7kg butane calor gas?

A set up such as:

My understanding is that either would work?

i think I would always have correct reg to fit bottle and certified for the gas being used, I’m sure that my insurance company would agree, but for gas transfer no reg is needed anyway

You only need a regulator for the butane cylinder if you intend using it to supply any appliances;

The kit in your link is what I had hoped to fined earlier.
The adapter valve for the Camping Gaz cylinder and the hose with 21.8mm LH "butane nuts" at each end will allow the CG cylinder to be refilled from a small ( 4.5kg) Calor butane cylinder.
The small butane cylinders appear to be next to unobtainable but the clip on adapter will allow larger Calor butane cylinders to be used .

The hose assembly is much better than the one in the previous link which had far too may bits and pieces screwed together at both ends.
