My annual subscription to the “Central and West Europe” (downloaded to my iPad) chart expired a couple of days ago. I now find that I can’t access anything other than a very crude base chart. I was under the impression from Garmin online that I could still access the chart and would only lose access to future updates when the subscription ran out. Anyone else having this issue?

I think the current situation is that if you’re subscription expires you loose access to the chart areas you downloaded.

That seems to be the case. I’m a bit annoyed as it’s not clear from their online blurb and much of their stuff I looked at online implied that you could carry on using the downloaded charts. I have an old version of iSailor that continues to work despite me not renewing my subscription since buying into Navionics.

My rather ancient Ipad was deemed by Navionics not to be able to handle the latest chart versions when I tried to renew.
The old charts remained useable, only the auto routing no longer worked.

Dumped the somewhat fragile hopelessly power greedy Ipad for a generic Android, a fraction of the price , that does not conk out when it gets warm and have not had to replace the screen on regular basis.

Is there still the £40ish option for Navionics on Android (UK East Coast) or are they all about £149.99 now

For the £40ish option what do I have to click?

This and the other Navionics thread running on ybw currently serve as an important warning: Do not allow your old Navionics-loaded tech anywhere near the internet if you want to retain access to downloaded charts without paying the subscription.

Not true ... the charts will still work - but you lose the added actions of Auto-routing / AIS and other overlays ...

There is some discussion as to whether connection to Internet can cause charts to stop working ... but I have my suspicion that anyone that has happened to - may have triggered it by their actions online ?

To be honest .. for me ... 50 odd euros a year is peanuts to have all Baltic charting (except Danish part ... why the Danes refuse I don't know ??)

The biggest handicap though .... IMHO .... is that the downloaded charts in Boating App on the Android - I've tried to locate / identify the files - but they appear to be embedded into the app ... unlike the SD card used in plotters etc.

This being embedded may be why some people are losing the use of charts if they allow the app to update .... (not talking about Chart Update).

Just tried it on my Android tablet. All went fine, having entered a security code sent to phone I was faced with a message telling me my subscription had expired. Then two messages - subscribe now? Or not now. I pressed 'not now' and my ancient chart opened.

However, it seems it is not possible to download a new detailed view. The old ones are functioning as before.

That would also appear to be the case with the Boating App for iPhone/iPad and would explain why I’ve lost the use of my charts.
