Gardner engines

Re: Gardner engines - true story

Was the "Solent Class" called The Three Sisters? She was being refurbed at Levington, gossip said for a "round-the-world" but work seems to have stopped.

I can't remember now, she was lying at Noss marina on the Dart, gone now, but I don't know where. Round the world, not with those big engines, she'd need to be one big fuel tank!! I suppose they could use one at about 5 knots, but those old lifeboats, without sails, roll on wet grass! Ugh!

Re: Gardner engines - true story

I think there's a good chance it was she, but anyway I think there were only two. I've been up there two or three times and they started by removing everything from inside and she had been partially rebuilt, amazing internal volume when everything else's gone, I guess the tankage could be significantly increased. When last seen had all over covers on and no activity.

The local rumour was that she sold to an Amercian Gentleman who was going to take her hack to Hawaii but I have no idea if that was true.
