galvanised mast hoops

I have just acquired some galvanised mast hoops.
Do I need to leather them?
is there an alternative, for instance siezing them

If you don't want the hoops to fetch all the finish off your mast, leather them. Leather will be much more durable than the small stuff which you would use for serving them. Don't forget to dress the leather after you have stitched it on with lanolin or dubbin. The leathers should be stitched on with a baseball stitch. This involves two needles, one each end of the codline thread. It's not unlike lacing a pair of sneakers, where you start at one end of the lacing holes and the middle of the laces, and work your way aternately to the other end.
