Did a quick search and found this:

Looks like someone wants that land vacant...

The GLA is bringing forward a comprehensive redevelopment of Albert Island into an industrial and commercial area including a boat yard. This redevelopment requires vacant possession of the site, including the space occupied until recently by Gallions Point Marina.

To this end, the GLA made a number of attempts to agree a settlement with the owners of Gallions Point Marina to vacate the site, including through mediation. As all attempts failed, the GLA had no choice but to take legal action. The Court process found in the GLA’s favour earlier this year, and an attempt to appeal the decision was rejected.

Notwithstanding the decision of the courts, the GLA continued to offer favourable terms to assist the owners of Gallions Point Marina in an orderly transition and handover of the site. These terms were rejected, and so High Court Enforcement Officers implemented the decision of the Court in October. The GLA is now in possession of the site.

My sympathies are completely with the marina on this one. I’m surprised and disappointed by the inhumanity shown by some of the posters to this thread.

Humm yes quite so kind Sir quite so

Bet some on here are employed by very large Companies like Banks etc and tactics as show here are reguarded 'just parr for the course' so apparently accepted as 'the norm'

Pity that we share the same sailing and boating waters with them, urg

Why?

They started a business on a site with short term leases. They tried to get longer leases but were continuously turned down. They continued to invest time and emotional effort etc into their business and are now complaining about the outcome when what was obvious to anyone with an ounce of business sense could see coming a mile off.

I am usually very sympathetic to people who are hard done by, but this was a business train crash of the first magnitude.

I agree. The area was already part of a huge regeneration plan when they moved in and every year they would see another nearby site being demolished and rebuilt into the area we see now - not very pretty but full of shops and eateries and huge numbers of flats, instead of largely derelict. It would be great to have a good marina there but a scrappy one was never going to work once the area was redeveloped.

What do you imagine those 'favourable terms' were? What, to your mind, would constitute a reasonable offer for 27 years of two people's lives? Have a punt and I'll tell you the answer. You'll likely be very surprised! Thanks for this by the way, I was aware David Kurten had enquired, but couldn't find the link.

Refreshing to see a different perspective, thank you. I'm not surprised, just middle-class lickspittle who think they know it all. Let them continue speculating, only myself and my legal team need to know exactly what's afoot, so let them continue with their meaningless conjecture and petty insults.

We all know there's nowhere to move to, but go on, put a figure on it. What would you think was fair for having such a huge chunk of your life stolen (at the expense of certain aspects of life that now cannot ever be, such as children etc) being used for almost three decades and then having all you'd worked for simply handed over to property developers?

My sympathies are enirely with the family that have been running the marina, but unfortunately as they were only tennants apparently on short term leases they didn’t own the property so are totally subject to the whims of their landlords who I gather have decided to end the lease so that they can develop the site, unfortunately it looks as if the law is on their side, but it would be great if someone could prove otherwise.

You rent somewhere, you make a living from it, that comes to an end.
That's renting for you.
Unless you have a genuine reason to believe you had secure renewable tenure, or believe you were misled into thinking that, I can't see that you have a case.
It's like all the people who get turfed out of their shorthold tenancy BTL homes after n years, simply because the landlord wishes to sell or whatever. It's unfortunate, but it's why the property is available to rent in the first place.

Thank you, and your thoughts are much appreciated. Makes a welcome change from the unpleasant comments on this thread. There was still an active appeal lodged in the High Court when they carried out the eviction. None of it's right, but it'll all come out in the wash. It's not over yet.

That is very facts of life from the Layer Cake and considering the location, very appropriate ............

Interesting analogy to use; 'layering'. Something that's certainly been picked up on. Like an onion, they may bring tears to the eyes, but eventually, they're destined to be sliced, diced and put into a pot, where they're eventually consumed and shat out. Enjoy gloating for the meantime, but watch this space hun!

I am not gloating, I have zero emotional attachment to your predicament. I do hope that it works out well for you.

Lifes a bitch sometimes. But there are allways people quite close who are far worse off. Its happened to us three times in 30 years, each time we move on and don't look back. You get hardened to it. Nothing to do with luck but have allways ended up in a better place. Money talks and nothing else.
Wish you and your family well in the future,
Steveeasy
