Hi all,

I have an old analogue Furuno radar and am planning to upgrade to a Raymarine Quantum wifi.

Is it possible to bolt the new radome onto the old radome’s mast mount (perhaps with an adaptor plate) or do I have to budget for a completely new mast mounting?

If it is of any use to you...I recently fitted a furuno onto an old raymarine mount using an adaptor plate made from some hard composite plastic...sika flexed and bolted in place...

The furuno was smaller and lighter than the raymarine (Raytheon)

Thank you Pandos. Hmm it sounds as if doing it the otherway round might be problematic.
Newer radar probably lighter again...it's not just the price of the mount bit also the messing around taking off the old and fitting the new...

The mounting holes ( m10 bolts) on the furuno were further apart than those on the Raytheon, which were much smaller size bolts.(m8?)..

I got the idea from making conversion pieces in the past for computer monitors for rapid changeovers .. (with some thought it is easy to do what the manufacturers seem to deliberately try to prevent)

I swapped my radar recently and in looking around the marina the Furuno units definitely all seemed to have different bolt patterns than the rest which seemed standard. The Raymarine bolt pattern is in the online manual and uses M8 bolts. Buy some M8 ring bolts to hoist it with when you change over, and some M10 ring bolts to lower the old unit. You can leave one bolt connected and turn the unit to fit a ring and rope such that it’s always secure and can’t be dropped through the deck!
