Before I try to get my new DSC set talking to my Furuno GP30/35 GPS, has anyone else actually suceeded in doing it and was it straightforward/impossible? I am aware it is now quite an old set.
Its a doddle....just identify the nmea output leads and set the port to the right speed and connect up to the Nmea input ports on the DSC Furuno usually have the nemea information in the menu of the GPS. Mine worked straight off no problem but it was a model 32
On my 32 there are two NMEA pairs. I think the pair you want are white/blue, (+ve and -ve) . (The other pair, yellow/ green, are to send/receive to a PC ). The 32 has a wiring info screen on the menu, but I don't know about earlier versions.
All sounds promising - don't suppose anyone else remembers which colour wires to use, do they?

I shall try and remember to look but it is pretty obvious as Furuno have the wiring circuit shown in the menu under NMEA on the 32 so I expect yours is the same....it says which colour is transmit and you have the choice of setting the speed..(4800) You then go to your radio manual and find out what wires are receive .. You connect Furuno transmit to radio receive The only thing to beware you may have two ports on the Furuno so select the one which is transmit only and make sure it is the wires for that port which you select. It is in the menu . Unfortunately my book is also on the boat.
What may confuse you is that although you have the excellent GP_30/35 DGPS and it refers to connecting to PC , radar, chartplotter ETC It says nothing about DSC , This is because it predates DSC so use the same connections as it says for RADAR or CHARTPLOTTER.

There is no point in connecting the Furuno green to the radio as it is a "data receive" wire intended for receiving waypoint and route data from, eg a Yeoman or a PC. The radio has no data ouput. The more usual connection to the radio would be by the white/blue pair. I think that it just happens that the radio connections are y/gn as there seems no standardisation between manufacturers.
