This seems to have become my preferred purchase taking into account new prices for JRC Mk 2 models.

Does anyone have any experiences? I assume it is just the old 1622 in a new case.

YM/PBO et al. seem scared of radar and haven't carried out a test for a couple of years. All the ones in that test have since been superseded. I am sure JJ would have a go and his opinion is always respected.

Don't know aboyut the 1622 or 1623, but I'm perfectly satisfied with my 1621 which has crossed the Atlantic twice (W to E and E to W). Only trouble was that the magnetron died after 957 hours but the techie in Nova Scotia who replace it with a Marconi instead of the original Toshiba said it would last much longer.

Re: JRC Mk 1....

overpriced when the Mk 2 is available in USA for £500 - of course they will not honour the guarantee in UK so if you cruise, dont buy a JRC.

The 1622 was fine but the Rayamrine SL-72 is better. JRC controls are dreaful to use and I would never consider a JRC until they improve their contol methodology.

I have one of these. Very happy with the unit. Cant think of anything to complain about. It is quite different to the 1622. If you go on the Furuno website you can download the data sheets for both to compare

"JRC controls are dreaful" ...this is not our experience!

We bought a JRC 1500 last year and used it sailing round the south coast and over the channel - found the controls very straightforward (i.e. intuitive, simple and effective) to use and, importantly, easy to remember how the controls work when it hasn't been used for some months!

I understand the JRC 1550 has an improved display, so would have thought it worth considering for around £1000.
