A colleague of mine was helping his friend on a trip from The Solent to the Essex coast last summer on a 30 foot raggie. As I was going to be in Ramsgate we arranged to meet for coffee the morning after they arrived. When my colleage came over to the boat the conversation went something like this...
Me "Hi, how was the trip?"
Him "fine really till we got here.....we ran aground in the outer harbour. Had to be rescued by a harbour launch"
Me "blimey, how did that happen"
Him "we had an engine problem and had no throttle control"
Me "How did that happen...cable snap or wot?"
Him "no, the skipper dropped the pliers overboard that he uses to pull the throttle cable"
hmmmm....sad thing it's really true!!
