Fuel Consumption

I don't think 20hp per gallon rule can be used on this particular boat, close but not exactly. I think under that would be better - I am sure with an angle change here and there we can reduce the fuel consumption more.

Are there many monohulls of 30ft that can carry/sleep 4 peeps at 20 knots and use that little fuel??

seems to work smack on to me!! figures are only 0.83 gph different - seems pretty good to me...

Report from new 29ft displacement motorcat owner says with D3 160 running at 20 knots/3000 rpm/18.6 litres per hr/0.93 litres per nm. Around 28mph max speed - hoping to get higher with more tinkering. Hope this straightens record about the new boats fuel efficiency - I sell this boat for the record and have full fuel data from the new owner. It was sent to some motor mags today. Why nothing in Motor Boat Monthly about the boat appearing at the show after sending press releases is beyond me especially with their fuel campaign.

Thats a shame nothing about it in mbm - cos i was quite impressed with MotorCats, we did actual meet once - i did not know you were on the forum at the time though or would have spoken more.

do you have a graph of hp vs. max theroretical speeds?

I'll take this one:

180 litres/4.54 = 39.65 gallons

39.65/4 hours = 9.9gph (correct to 1dp)

Or in a more useful way, 100 miles/39.65 gallons = 2.52mpg

Which isn't bad, but about the same as my 34ft monohul with twin 230hp diesels running at 30knts. Yes my GPH is greater, but I get there fster so efficiency is the same.

not sure what these figures have to do with the thread? they are significantly at odds with the consumption already discussed - eg 1.8l/pm is nearly double the figures put forward initially.

0.93l/p(n)m is very very good for a craft of this size and capability at that speed.

for comparision my 25' 2.4 ton single Yanmar powered boat is around 1.1l/pnm at that speed
