fuel consumption fairline squadron 52

A friend used to consume about 150 Liters per hour at about 25 knots.
He used to top 31/32 knots with a clean bump and twin Volvo 615hp.
Good running Motor Yacht.
Have to remember that slower does not always means more economical, as it depends how much miles you are making to the liter.

I reckon jfm is not far off. I get about 0.65nm per gallon from my 53 footer at 20-25kts

Strewth; I reckon that's £1k to Cherbourg and back from Yarmouth. Ouch.

Yup you're not far off. I reckon on about 7 quid per nautical mile in Croatia for my 53 footer at 20-25kts and diesel is about 10-20% more pricey here so £1000 of fuel for 130 nm is about right. Its definitely not worth visiting Cherbourg for £1000:)

Ahha! I've been looking for this info too far ages, so thank you all!

In the end i guessed it to ~ 0.6 @ 25kts from the max fuel consumption of 240litres/hour @ 30 knots.

The Sq52 was a bit of a Fairline oddball design so maybe its for the best anyway!

It is a bit different, however for us as it will mostly be the two of us, the extra space in the rooms and bathrooms in the 52 over a 55 etc is better.

I shall continue dreaming of a sq58 though ;) Better get back to work..

Hey Neil,

I have a squad 58 and did some fuel testing the other day.

`just had her cleaned, anitfouled etc.

At about 1900 rpm, 23.2 knots or so and 180l/h from memory.

Have the figures written down somewhere.

You have an awesome boat there boatlover!!

Interesting that it's not using a vast amount more than the 52 would at that speed.

I'd have thought the old Rolls Royce quote comes into play with this thread,

Sir, if you have to ask, then you can't afford it.:D

I was interested in a Squaddie 52, that one at EBY which is a nice boat as JFM concurs. But as they say 'you can't afford it if you have to ask' but I thought I could afford it and now someone else's asked and I realised I can't bloodi afford it...work that one out!

if it's any consolation, I know that what I have is probably the limit of my wallet's ability to feed, anything thirstier I'd go skint:D

Id stick with the kad 44s in this fuel conscious climate! you should see a good 1.5 mpg.

Thanks Neil for that :-) Yeah the Squad 58 is a hard boat to beat, had it 2 1/2 years and been awesome.

Ask JFM :-) He had 2 Squad 58's for over 5 year's or so.

I'm getting envious of his 78 - might have to called Essex Boat yards see whats on offer ...
