Fuel Consumption Birchwood Challanger 380 Aft Cabin

Hi and welcome to forum .Several peeps on here have had this sort of boat, but what engines does she have?
Some had the Mermaid 215 Hp.

Order the MBM test report on this boat, they tested a Challanger 380 called Timbo with 330hp Ivecos a few years ago, all fuel consumption and speed data was in the test. Just search YBW.com for the report.

I have read the report and it has completly confused me. Here is an extract of it below.

RPM KNTS GPH MPG RANGE
1800 13.3 6.8 1.95 312
2000 16.5 10.0 1.65 264
2200 20.6 14.19 1.46 234
2400 23.5 19.4 1.21 194
2650 26.2 28.2 .93 149

(Sorry the figures are so close above in its layout, its the forum format) /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif.

Fuel Capacity 200 Imp Gall.

Are the above GPH figures with one engine running or both.

Lets take the 1800 rpm at 13.3 knts using 1.95 gph

200 gall/6.8 gph = 29.41 hrs X 13.3knts = 391 miles - 20% = 312 miles. Is this posible. I think they have worked it out using one engine. Could a 330hp engine only use 3.4 GPH at 1800 rpm.

If we use it at 6.8gph on one engine (13.6 on both ) then the range is only 156 ( allowing 20% ) Not 312 !!!!!!!!!!!

Now if we go to the 2200 rpm and the 2400rpm it makes a little more sense. Is the 14.19 and the 19.4 using both engines or one ??

If I do have a range of 312 at 1800 rpm =how far could I travel at 1600rpm or 1400rpm????????????

Could this be the first Challanger to circumnavigate Ireland without refuelling???????????????????????

I dont want to run out of fuel half way around.

Looks right to me, a lot to be gained from going slow /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Works for my engines I have 2x150 and get roughly half your consumption and twice the mpg at the same speeds /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
