Volvo Penta D1-30. Thinking of using my Pela on the secondary fuel filter bleed to prime after changing primary and secondary filters. Secondary filter is between feed and injector pump. The fuel return pipe goes from injector pump inlet, across the injectors and then back to fuel tank. My concern is this might not work as fuel will be sucked through the fuel return line (least resistance) instead of the fuel supply line.

My D1-30 has a pump on the fuel filter. There should be no need for a Pela. Not that I can see how it would work successfully anyway.
That being said I do not use it as I have a diesel bellows pump just after the first filter. This pushes fuel right through the second filter etc & I can hear the fuel splashing back into the tank if the tank is not full. Saves loads of bother & easy to bleed at sea, or just after filter change each season

I've read that using the pump on the top of secondary filter can take a very long time.

I was thinking of disconnecting the fuel return line and using the Pela on its connection to the injectors?

Forget the pump on the lift pump, pela on the bleed screw is so much quicker and easier been doing it for years.
I found some stainless brake bleed nipples with a ball valve built in and it's even easier as no air gets back in however slow you work, just watch till clean fuel Appears in pela pipe and pull off so fuel is sucked into pela, bled with not a drop spilt to clean up.

I use one of these... Hand Held Vacuum Pump Pressure Tester Ket Car Brake Fluid Bleeder Tool Set.
About £10.

Not sure why. I did our D2-55 today. Use small bottle of clean diesel to refill both filters before refitting. Cracked bleed screw, two brief presses on the button on top of the secondary filter, engine started instantly and ran clean for 10 minutes. Took less than 10 seconds to bleed.
Have a Raccor as primary which helps, as very easy to top up after replacing filter.

Thanks for replies. Pela on bleed screw would be the easiest for me - seems feasible according to Snowbird30ds.

Still concerned about pulling return line fuel back through the injector pump - unless it has a built in non return valve?

Otherwise I've ordered a 300ml syringe to try the prefill the filters approach.

We keep a little bit of diesel beside the primary filter in one of these fuel bottles. Pours in neatly. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Maeloveenj...rgid=pla-844895220691&gad_source=1&th=1&psc=1
Gloves, absorbent mat and bin bags kept beside it.
Pela seems an awful phaff to save a couple of presses on the priming button :)
Don’t forget the time needed to clean up the Pela afterwards.
