The 20l is just like that.
Yes and actually I could likely go for the 40L on same basis ....
The 20l is just like that.
Finally caved in and paid for a Vevor 40L portable refridgerator.
Welcome to the small boat G&T club! We still love ours, and it never fails to surprise visitors.Plugged in and tested ... took a while - but set to 0 C ..... and it registered -1 ... -2C and held it ....
Setting can be down to -20C ....... but I don't think I'll have much use for such low temp ... maybe !
I made a small error - the Box I bought - I thought it was divided Fridge + Freezer but its a single compartment that I set to either Fridge or Freezer use. In fact I'm happy with that as it gives full volume instead of split.
Looking fwd to those Cocktails and Cold Beers once Superanne is back from repairs.
We have an Indel B portable compressor fridge. It's part of the Waeco family of brands. It's only 42 litres but we use it as our 'warm' fridge. It stores our fruit and veg here in the Caribbean. As you say, the insulation on these types of fridge is poor. We noticed that Waeco sell a cover to improve the insulation. They don't do one for our fridge so we made one. We used closed cell foam insulation encapulated in some acrylic canvasI hope the new fridge turns out to be a winner Nigel. Just a few comments re size for any others contemplating portable fridge freezer. It may be most convenient to load up the freezer at home before departure. Take it down on 240v AC if you can. However freezer can get heavy if full. Might be awkward to fit in place and as Nigel said look out for top door opening direction.
Engel is Japanese made I think were very popular here in fact I had one 45 years ago. Light on battery power and able to freeze. They use an unusual linear or shuttle type compressor which eventually failed. Too expensive to replace. I think the Danfoss style rotary compressor is more reliable.
I have a smallest Waeco portable now. it has auto switching 12 to 24 volt. I made up a 24v power supply from mains which works ok. What is a bit vexing is that you cannot turn off the low battery volts turn off protection. It seems to me that if controller for the compressor can cope with a range of voltage from 11 to 30 volts then it would be ideal to run directly off a solar panel like 50 plus watts. No battery. Anyway just a thought.
One thing about the Waeco is how cold the under surface feels. Not good insulation at all. I sit it on a foam mat to help.
On outback expeditions long ago in car we would use the Engel as a freezer with frozen food in it. We carried also a insulated box and used the frozen food for the evening meal in the insulated box to keep milk drinks etc cool while defrosting the food (meat etc) . ol'will
