Fridge to battery controller

Hi,
I have a gadget that uses shore power converted to twelve volts when hooked up, then switches to battery when disconnected. Its hidden away so cant easily find the name for you but a decent chandler should know who makes them.

I'm not sure that this device works in the way that you want, would be interested to hear otherwise. The setup I have is that the fridge runs automatically whenever the engine is running. There is a manual switch for on the mooring or when sailing. I have no idea how this is done, my pet electrickery man wired it up!

I think that's what I want it to do and the Pdf file infers it does what I want.

Fridge only comes on when there is a significant charge going into the battery... from engine or shore power. There seems to be a over ride button as well that switches teh fridge on for 2 hours.. but which cuts out if the battery volts drop too low.

Must talk to my man and see if I need one of these things as well. May your fridge be forever cold and your batteries forever charged. Regards.

Thanks for the link, not interested in the Fridge controller but like the look of the 12 Volt halogen lights. have you used them at all.

I fitted one to a friend's boat a couple of years ago and it works fine ... just as described. It's pretty much like an SCR (switch charge relay): comes on when voltage is above a pre-set point and off when volts fall below that; there is a manual override which allows you to force the fridge on for a pre-set period of two hours even if there is no charge at that time.

I thought it was good value and simple; better than the Frigoboat Economy Controller I had on my last boat !!!

Alan.

Isopherm, you can find them on the internet, stores enough power from the first half hour of having your engine on to get off your mooring and out of harbour, to keep fridge going 24 hours.
