When I used to sail over to France in my childhood and teens, it was always known as "doing a frenchman", and that's certainly what it's still referred to on my boat some years later.

About 20 years ago at an anchorage somewhere in France a chap I was sailing with went up on deck early in the morning to have a quick smoke and claimed to have seen someone "doing a frenchwoman". She apparently went up to the pullpit and sort of hung over from there.....

Never did quite believe him.

Probably use the sink, but certain, ahem, technical and positional difficulties would seem to present themselves.

I remember a song about this from the seventies, though I can't remember who it was by. It revolved around taking a new girlfriend home to meet the parents. She was caught short and had to use the sink, but "I could tell she was a nice girl, because she moved the dishes first".

A lesson for us all.
