A report in the Mail on Sunday states, that last week alone, 35 dolphin carcasses were washed up on the Devon and Cornwall coastlines.

The problem is pair trawling in the channel which is netting huge profits from Sea Bass.

Under the EU’s 1993 Habitats Directive the French government should monitor them to check what they are catching. But they won’t put observers on board because they refuse to acknowledge there’s a problem.

Brixham fisherman’s wife Lindy Hingley – awarded an MBE for marine conservation work said ‘ This is mass rape of the sea, Bass stocks and dolphins are being decimated while the EU looks the other way’.

Made a couple of posts myself on this subject, experts reckon that for
everyone that comes ashore there is another ten that do not!
last posts I made some seem to think the deaths were natural,
I walk my dogs on beaches local to me in Cornwall and have seen several
dolphins lately, All dead!!!!!!
While I agree some do die natural deaths, but to my limited knowledge none
ever commit suicide by decapitating themselves or doing the human equivelant
of slashing their wrist by cutting off their fins or slashing their stomachs
open,
This is all done to make the corpses sink,
Local rag has being running a campaign on this for quite a while and now it appears to be gaining more support.

Hi Mike !

According to the report, many of the victims had broken their beaks in a frantic attempt to bite free of the nets. This unfortunately condemns them to an agonising death as they drown very slowly. I could understand if these fishermen were from the third world trying to find something to eat.

Ironically, the EU is so protectionist, African countries cannot sell things like sugar to the EU as it is so heavily subsidised.

Max

Hi Max
There beaks get broken by their ramming of the net while trying to escape,
Did you know these nets can be two kilometres wide and up to a kilometre deep!
and could in fact scoop up twelve Jumbo Jets in one go.
Did hear of a ship that was assigned to watch over proceedings but apparently
it was involved in a collision with I believe a Danish fishing boat.
And is no longer in the picture, Government reckon they cannot do much as they
are foriegn boats, Thought that is what we had a navy for!!!!!
The Icelanders fought the cod war to protect their fish, Why can't we protect
ours?
The people involved in this type of fishing must be heartless not to be affected
by the suffering they are causing, IMHO.

MIKE
