I wonder if anyone has passed the 'Permit bateau Cotier' in France. I have passed the theoretical course and want to take the practical. My problem is the school I joined to take all three parts isn't giving me information regarding the final , practical exam. (I have attended the course, taken the exam and passed and now want the practical)) It was three weeks ago I passed the theoretical and just wonder if the school has to wait for official notice that I have passed before they can arrange the practical. I did inform the school I had passed the theoretical and all they said was 'thanks for informing us' (in French of course!) Does anyone have knowledge or experience in passing this exam?

I did it 2005 ,
The principles the same .
We did it on the Friday of a 1 week course .AM was the theory a MCQ .It was a 2 hr drive in Marseille from the “ school “ in Lavandou. By the time we rtn to the school the results were known .
Those who failed the theory were sent home and didn’t do the practical after lunch

So I suspect they will awaiting the theory results .I am not too sure these days how the theory is configured?
It’s altered over the yrs .In my day iirc 23 MCQs and you had to get a min of 20 correct .

Fortunately for me they allowed a translator into the exam room , but I had seen the menu of 200 Q they draw the 23 from and learnt them .
As for the practical exam it was guy who’s mum was a French teacher in Harrogate and he had grown up in Yorkshire.
So spoke perfect Eg . They moved back to Fr when he was high school age .

The tutor at the school re
was a French Canadian so was also bilingual.
1/2 the dozen of students were Eg 1/2 were Fr locals .

Good luck with it .

Thanks for the reply: The permit bateau (cotier) I have taken is now somewhat different. I sat in a class for three hours receiving instruction with six others. It was then up to me to arrange the theory test at an office of the Post Office. The test was 40 questions covering everything to do with boating and I was allowed to have five wrong. I got two wrong!. Also received the results within about ten minutes. That was three weeks ago. Since then I have heard nothing from the school regarding the practical test. I have emailed twice but still nothing. I just don't know if the school has to wait until the ministry informs them of the result before they then contact me or I have to arrange with a school for the practical. Unlike you this was all conducted in French!!!! I had a lot of studying to do!!!!

Hi again.
Well I had to pester the school to get in a date for the practical, which I passed without a problem. I wouoldbhave been surprised had there been a problem as I have sailed for over thirty years! Anyway, at the end I asked the 'teacher' when will the licence be sent to me" two to three weeks' was the reply. That was six weeks ago!!!!! I have contacted him and he said "yes, there does seem to be a slight delay"!!! In the meantime I can't hire a boat or buy one until I receive the licence. I was given a provisional licence which ran for thirty days but of course has now run out.
I love living in France but sometimes the French---------!!!!!!!!!!!

When I did mine it was a practical and a theory final written exam….by the time the wife took hers it was course work only, assessed by the school without a final (theory or practical)

Perhaps they are doing you a favour….this boat soup is this morning….and it’s a week day😧😳

I’m in port right now and it’s complete madness 😳…a few weeks delay should see it all calm down 😎

Things seem to be a bit slow in the EU at the moment, we de-registered our boat out of the Dutch Kadaster on 12July we finally got the document on Monday this week, and that only because I pestered the broker about it a week ago Friday and he pestered the Kadaster :) , I had an email copy of the document later that Friday and in English too.
We applied for the Belgian registration on 16th July they said it could take 6 weeks to get it, now 4 weeks in to that, then it's apply to BiPT for the callsign, MMSI and ATIS codes for the radios and AIS, THEN we can take our boat home :)

You are probably right. I'm not sure where that is but my preferred sailing (motor boat now I suppose, when I get my licence!) area is off the coast of Hyeres

You are possibly right. I don't know that area in the photo but my preferred sailing spot is off the coast of Hyeres. Several islands make it a great place to sail ( now motor I suppose, once my licence arrives that is!!) In all the years I have sailed there it was never like that!!! Mind you, June was , for me, the best time to be there; August!!!! Nowhere in France is safe in August!!!

Things are always slow in the E.U.!! 25 years I have lived in France and the only things that move fast are the geckos !
