I don't know what your question is, but to the question "what papers are required for French waters", we have as much of an answer as we are ever going to get, unless someone challenges a fine in the French courts and brings it to our attention.

That answer is: "The HQ of the French customs service says that vessels can be fined for failing to produce a certificate of nationality." And "certificate of nationality" = registration certificate, unless you can come up with some other class of documents that fits that description. So far no-one has.

When I ask the question to the Head of Customs in charge of Cherbourg he says HE does not know if a SSR is required AND that HE has himself personnaly agreed with British Isles Authorities to be lenient if the problem of registry arises on his territory, that Swedes and their yachts up to 28mtrs loa are exempted of registration, Italians and their yachts up to 10mtrs loa are exempted too, an insurance certificate is good enough. So, what more do you want?????? I have been checked many times, even if it was over three years ago by customs and never got a fine and my 30ft was not SSRegistered... what more do you want?

A laminated copy of my part1 registration is indistinguishable from the original.

It has stood up to French and Dutch scrutiny. All they want is to "jog on" and inspect the receipts for VAT and Diesel.

Much too much is made of this, we are in fact visitor to these countries, so it is not uneasonable to meet their document requirements.

So what kinds of certificates of nationality will they accept for British boats?
