Would anyone have any idea how to unfreeze a Fusion RA70 marine radio? All it has on the screen is the word FUSION and it doesn't matter what buttons I press I cannot do anything with it? Please help me I think I am going insane.

Ivan

Welcome to the forums!

The Fusion manual suggests turning off the power to the unit for at least two minutes. If that doesn't work, perhaps phone Fusion support?

My fusion has given up this week too. Have you pressed the reset button? Didn't work for me, but you might get lucky.

POWER Press to turn the unit ON/OFF. Press and Hold Press and hold for 10 seconds to 'Reset' the stereo. Press to enter Menu System. Press to return to previous screen. ?

This is a common event as search on the internet will reveal. They just die! This happened to mine a while ago After a couple of years use and nothing would bring it back. Very disappointed with a piece of kit which is supposed to be fully marinised. I have cheap portable radio which has survived 20 years or more boating camping etc. Support from the makers is non existent. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to buy a Fusion radio

My Fusion unit did exactly the same one day. Perfect one second, turned off by remote to speak to crew on foredeck, turned back on, completely dead apart from logo. Just under 3 years old, interior installation apart from speakers and wired remote. Had been very happy with it up till then, now wouldn't touch another piece of Fusion crap again.

Tried all the reset instructions, properly troubleshot all connections and voltages etc, customer service no help 'never heard of anything like that before sir, you could send it to us at your expense but probably beyond economic repair sir, We can sell you a more modern unit with a tiny discount though'. They say not a known problem but search the web and you'll find hundreds of cases where the units just die.

POS! (Other opinions are available.. Even if they're wrong)

Hi returned to boat today - the curse of Fusion appeared on screen -rang customer support around 4pm and while phone answered the young girl explained all the Fusion techies had gone home and I should call on Monday . All the published steps of holding down power for 10 secs and turning off power don’t work. Why does it just fail after a winter alone untouched? Is it suffering from covid 19 maybe ? Any thoughts welcome as to how ro resucitate.

Another one here. Turned mine off, went to turn it back in and completely dead. Nothing at all on the screen. Tried everything and even checked power is getting to the PCB inside and confirmed that it is. Conclusion. These rather expensive units are not reliable and not worth the money. I was actually going to buy a new one, thinking I was just unlucky and because when it was working I really liked it, but having found out how common the problem is I will definitely steer clear.

The annoying thing is the Fusion speakers are also connected to tv. I pulled the wire so that’s now using internal tv speakers which is fine if rather low quality sound . I guess the next step is to disconnect the power lead plugs - I wondered if they suffered from damp (although we have a dehumidifier on board over winter so not that damp) . I was hoping you could send it back to Garmin and they might fix as based on research so far they should known what the issue is surely?

I've just searched fusion RA70 as I was about to hit the button and purchase a RA 70. Are the above isolated cases or should I look at another product?
I wanted a more marine unit with simple operation rather than the complicated car stereo installed any advice greatly received.

Don't bother with the expensive marine fusion crap. I have just purchased one of these for replacing the boats original car stereo.
Just working out how to use the reversing camera. Engine room monitor or boat security cam?

All I can say having thought mine was an isolated incident was that the Bavaria owner who helped me out as he had the same unit so we tested mine then about 4 months later he had exactly same issue- 2 different makes of boat with fusion units factory installed on same pontoon having same failure seems to indicate a manufacturing issue but no help from Garmin .

I have a different Fusion model, integrated within my Simrad electronics. A couple of years ago it froze, symptoms as described above.

As mysteriously as it froze, it decided to work again during my next visit to the boat, a few weeks later. I’ve always suspected low domestic battery bank voltage when first powered-up.

I asked my Beneteau Dealer how to remove it (as it isn’t at all obvious) and, as unhelpful as ever, I’m still waiting for a response ?

I took the car stereo off of my last boat and fitted a Samsung soundbar. The new to me boat has a Fusion radio on the flybridge, picks up a few stations. We won't be using it though, we've purchased a couple of soundbars, a Samsung soundbar is connected to the TV with an HDMI cable and also has Bluetooth. We've also purchased a portable soundbar to use on deck, in the cockpit or on the flybridge.

With the "Radioplayer" app' on my phone we get more or less every radio station in the country, anywhere on the boat.

The portable one is one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Upgr...87e-8c8e-e00af3ce3ce9&pd_rd_i=B01MTB55WH&th=1

Lots of others available, but this one is good quality and we can even link two of them together.

Interesting to hear of these issues. I like the simplicity and functionality of my RA70N but it is also starting to play up with intermittent loss of sound on one or both channels.
