I’m giving away my 1991 ComPac 19/2 trailer-sailer, Minnie. That’s her at the top of the Salty John website and the blog.

She is 20’ LOA, 19’ LOD, 7’ beam, 2’ draught. GRP with alloy spars. Built by Hutchins Company in Florida.

She has been temporarily modified for use on the Lancaster canal, where she currently resides. I took off her rig and sailing gear such as winches, blocks, organisers and two of the stanchions – these are safely stored in my garage. The bolt holes for all this stuff are filled with a soft compound that is easily drilled out. It took me two days to do this work; it might take three or four to get it all back in place.

There is no motor and no trailer included. She has a shoal draught (2’) long keel and weighs 2000 lbs.

Her condition is good, her original build quality well above average. She has a brand new main chewed on by field mice – if you want to use it, it needs repair work. There’s also a very old jib.

All this is yours if you can haul it away on a suitable trailer – the marina has a slipway.

What you have to do: Express serious interest by pm or email – you’ll go on the list. I’ll send details including pictures. You confirm you want her and arrange with me to collect her. I’ll give you a bill of sale to confirm she’s yours. Decline and she goes to the next person on the list.

Please do not ask “what’s the catch?” That would be an assault on my integrity. She is not derelict, we use her frequently. Please don’t reply if you want to kick her wheels first – I’m giving her away to avoid having to sell her, with all that that entails.
If you can’t possibly find the trailer/driver/time or money for such a project /etc - please don’t reply. Dreaming is nice, but you’ll be holding up the queue.

No, YM/PBO can’t have her to wreck her for the benefit of their readers!

If this fails, she’s going on eBay!

No call for such jokes! It's a mark of respect for your boat that you don't see it as a "market value".

Hope you find a suitable new owner.

Rob.

What a generous offer, I am now going mad trying to find/borrow/beg/steal a trailer,(not really steal)before I reply

High Salty John. What a generous offer. Mind you I cna fully understand the desire to avert the pains of finding a buyer.
Even from 20000k away it set my imagination running. I imagine it would be a great little boat for a bit of touring and camping on the canal system. if only I were younger I could make a pilgamage each UK summer to use it. Time for a reality check however...
I have had my little 21fter for now 35 years and still love it. I have camped on it a bit but do find I love my own bed best. it certainly is more comfortable than e tent. A trailer is of course vital and should not be that expensive even new compred to the worth of the boat and trailer.
I presume it has a single shoal draft keel. This would not be a great problem if the ramp (slip as you call it) is decent. I have been involved in recovery of a few fin keel boats of this size and not convenient but certainly doable. Mine has a fully retractable keel like a dinghy.
Anyway good luck to you Salty John and especially to the new owner. If I were nearby i would certianly take up the offer even though I certainly don't need another boat. just because I love boats and would hate to see a fine little ship go to waste. olewill

Maybe the junior section of a sailing club would make a good home ? See the thread on Scuttlebutt, ' young people messing about in small cruisers - a rare sight ' ( or similar phrasing ).

Thank you all for the many positive replies. There seems little chance that anyone outside the current first three on the list will have a chance at the boat, but if you want to throw your names in the hat please continue to do so. The first three all seem ideal homes for the boat which is very pleasing and I'm confident she'll go to one of them. Thanks again for the brilliant response.

Whilst I have your attention, my eBook, a compilation of 100 of my blog entries, is available at Amazon, WH Smith, Waterstones etc and all proceeds go to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. :) http://tinyurl.com/brcmaxt

I am impressed by your act and fine example.
In an age when everyone seems to know the price of everything and the value of nothing i think we all need reminders of what it is to be human.
I also like the concept of doing random acts of kindness. I realise it is only my own poverty of spirit that prevents me doing similar things. (I am working on it, OK!)
We are all born with nothing and leave with nothing. We can only do the best we can in the middle bit.
I hope you find a deserving new owner for what looks like a lovely boat.
Best wishes.

seajet, that is a very good idea as it would give more than one person the opportunity to learn/advance yachting and maintanence skills
