Fray Bentos - heating

Before they all chip in saying rude things about this food of the Gods, this Manna, this delight that should grace the table of posh restaurants (probably does, they just pretend they made it and charge you £25 a throw):D :D Try the camping shops for portable camping ovens...they're only folding tin boxes, or failing that find a proper biscuit tin, that's a tin tin, and chuck it on the gas with the pie inside..:D

Evening all,

Would love to sample the delights of FB, but how can it be propertly heated without an oven?

many thanks

David

This advice given without any warranty, actual or implied :-)

I had good results with the steak and kidney puddings by making a couple of holes in the top and wedging it on the exhaust manifold of a Bedford Army Truck. Not sure how well this would work on an marine engine though but I suspect it will be warm enough. Whatever you do make sure you put the holes in..... I had a very bad experience with a can of baked beans once

I cannot imagine why you would want to bother. There are many things you can cook or heat up on a two ring burner. Do you want some ideas?

Cut across immediately to Dylan's Keep Turning Right website and I'm sure I remember a short film of him heating a Chicken Curry FB on a single burner.... from memory it involved a toast rack, and another saucepan over the top...?? :o

My culinary adviser tells me the crust won't rise doing it this way. I'm ready to prove her wrong, does anyone know?

Single ring burner oven.

If your interested i have one of those proper oven things for sale that you put onto a single ring burner to turn it into an oven and safer than using a tin (Perfectly sized for a FB pie :D )
PM me if you want it

Why does that halogen oven look quite evil? Does it know the outcome of the person consuming the FB pie? The botulism? The runs? The frequent calls to Hughie? All of the above?

I was recently accused of eating FB till i informed him that it was home made and the metal container was not a FB tim but an ashet! Saying that i have been tempted to buy FB for the boat but i have not lost the plot enough yet!!
