Fox\'s must have too much business!

Tried contacting Fox's Marina (rigging dept) today after being recommended to them by Lewmar but they kept switching the 'phone off before answering (2 numbers given) so have to assume they have so many customers they don't need any more.
My friend (who was a potential £75,000 boat buying customer) feels that's not a good start so has decided he should take his money elsewhere.
Wonder what the sales dept might have to say about all that commission lost?

I will probably avoid them when I go thru that way later in the summer as well.

Or and I being too picky?

No point in being a visitor there anyway these days, with Neptune and Haven just up a tad further. Unless of course you actually like drinking in the Oyster Reach/Ostrich...

I couldn't help but laugh yesterday to see the Iris 50 now on "special" offer at 39 quid (sorry, using mate's pc, no idea where the pound sign is), down from 57. Still easily available for 29 in the area.

.....Yes!! Spent a night or two in amongst to concrete and boat buildingsheds at Neptune. Not too impressed with the scenery. But saw Pirates of the Carrabian during bad weather one night there so journey to open water allowed the imagination to roam.

Neptune's ok... nice stumbling distance from the Nelson (possibly best pub in Ipswich) and much of the concrete's gone this spring. Can probably nick some bandwidth from the yah flats too.

Yep.... v little concrete left now.... just a few bars, an art gallery and lots of modern marina style apartments......

And quite agree about the Nelson.... excellent pub....

Couldn't possibly comment on the availability of wireless networks.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Was a little concerned about the proximity of the road and access for vandals though when away from the boat and the little bar on the quay is open at some very odd hours - and no breakfasts.......wierd.

I really don't think that sending young or vulnerable people up the road in the middle of the night to go to the loo is a practical process for those with families. Hence you'll not find me in Neptune when I go into the wet dock.

Its the Haven Marina for me - besides its not all that much further to the Nelson.

Cheers

Re: Fox\'s must have too much business!

A friend had his boat fettled by Fox's and the project went well over schedule. It's the home yard for Oyster, and Oyster work for anything just takes automatic precedence, so the non-Oyster owner keeps getting shoved back in the queue. Have they got too much work? Sounds like it if they can't be bothered to answer the phone. There must be more deserving places to spend your money.

I considered this..... but then there is zero in the way of security at Haven..... anyone can (and does) wander in from the town.... whereas at Neptune, at least you need an access code or fob to get to the toilet block/showers or onto the pontoons.....

The loo block at Haven is supposed to be locked at night, but, as so often the case... Seen some "undesirables" in and around there, and I don't mean us lot (totally). While the destruction is going on it's a fair bit further, with the quay closed, but doesn't stop me getting to the Nelson. Talk of wifi at Haven soon, but no sign yet, and it'll be pricey. Fox's have it apparently.
At least at Neptune, with the quay closed much of the way, you don't get Gaz and Baz in their big zausted Corsas banging by so much these days.

Re: Rigging

Yep, Nigel is good and very helpful.

Also had great service from Z Spars, a few miles inland at Hadleigh but they bend over backwards to help out and v.good prices. Google Z Spars UK. Website's c**p but they're not!

Re: Rigging

I was flabbergasted by the rudeness of the sales people at Foxs, so I bought a boat elsewhere.

I later asked their stainless people for a quote for some work, and went to some trouble to be specific about what I wanted. that was months ago and I have heard nothing since. Obviously they are far too busy to bother with irksome things like customers - we should give them plenty of 'space' to resolved theirs 'issues'...

Re: Fox\'s must have too much business!

Haven't tried Fox's for sales / work, but the chandlery people are very helpful and accommodating.

Had our boat in the Haven for a year and never had a problem. The lock can get a bit crowded but the marina is pretty handy for the string of interesting restaurants in the road opposite leading up to the centre.

The cafe / restaurant in the Haven was a dead loss when we were there. Seemed more concerned with passing "land" trade than boaters

No different from any marine co IMHO. I used a small local co to winterise and change all the belts (cam and fuel pump), and replace the shaft on Gladys. Asked them to do the work in Oct... IT'S STILL NOT EFFING FINISHED!!!!!

Yup, I'll agree that the chandlery staff are helpful and friendly; some of the nicest around, it's a shame the prices are not. But then I think they'd admit that. As for the other side, I've not had much to do with them- every time I've tried, the relevant people have been busy or unavailable...
There are 2 roads leading from Haven/Neptune with a decent range of restos- St Nicholas Street (straight up from the roundabouts) and Orwell Street (behind the Lord Nelson/Neptune proper). Very true about the Last Anchor focusing on landies.
